Well, "she" was over 8 years old, and one of the few "named" fish in our tanks - and we've had her since way before "Nemo". She was one of the reasons we upgraded to a 215.

Last week she pretty much quit eating - but had done that before. I was hand feeding her that "super-mysis" that I have left from CB (still), and she was eating a little of it, but I was pretty sure this time she wouldn't recover.

We'll miss her!

Sorry to hear this Bill.

She's been added to your 5,000 gallon reef in heaven!

Yup, it is amazing... She was schizo though. Sometimes I could actually "pet" (touch) her - other times she'd run and hide when she saw me. When she was in the 55 up in my office, she would splash me as I went by the tank, or when she was hungry. The tank is about 5 feet from my chair. She really seemed to get a kick out of it when I'd yell "NIKKI!".

Too funny!

I have a canary wrasse that stretches its mouth open and charges at me when I’m near the tank begging for food! It’s kind of scary. Fish can be funny!

Sorry for your loss Bill. 8 years is a great long time for a hippo . Mine would be happy for three months at a time until the next disease she decided to invent. She was one of those noobie "gotta have that fish" picks. I look foward to the day I have been in the hobby as long as you.

Thanks for all the comments. Yeah, she was a typical Hippo - got Ich about a 1000 times in her life. I'm trying to decide if I should get another one. I'd have to start her/him in my 55 though. The big tank is kinda rough for newcomers now.

Justin, I've been keeping SW fish since 1972... Yeah, I'm old.

wow bill you've been in the SW business in 1972.I didn't know you were in the hobby for so long. You've probably been in one of Jacques Cousteau's Documentary :)

Yeah, you can't believe what the hobby was like then... Fish didn't live very long.

Bill, sorry to hear about your lost hippo! I don't think people who are not in the hobby can understand how attached we can become to our fish...

So sorry to hear about the loss Bill. I know what you mean by fish not living as long. I've been doing this since about 1982 and it's amazing the changes in technology for this hobby.
