Ok I was wondering if tube anemonies spew things into the water, kinda like to propegate or something. The reason I ask is because a couple hours ago I saw tons of stuff spewing and just being blown around the tank that was originating in the general area of the tube anemone tunnel. Now my skimmer is going crazy. I am guessing I may have to do a large h2o change. The water is clear now but I am still worried, and really dont want any purple tube anemone babies.

That sounds really exciting but sorry my tube never did it for me to know. Curious as I was I did find this on the matter:

Reproduction:
Has been observed in aquaria (Wilkens 1990). Two individuals left their tubes; swollen and with tentacles intertwined, floating at the surface. Some weeks late a large quantity of small pinkish-orange eggs were observed floating at the surface. None of the larvae lasted through a developmental (Planula) stage; presumably from lack of food.

This was taken from this website: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/tubeanem.htm

Have you seen the anemone come out of it's tube since this happened? Your topic reads that the stuff came from the opening of the tube, this leads me to believe that the anemone was not visible. If this is the case it would be really nasty if the anemone has died. They melt quickly and foul the water.

I had stated that the particles in question came from the tunnel area that the tube anemone is located. The anemone is the only animal in the tunnel. Sorry if it was stated in a strange way. The anemone is still alive in his recess area in the tunnel. I am still curious about what was spewing out of there. It did not look like sand and it was a definate first for me.

Another option is that anemones will regurgitate their digested food when stressed or a large meal. It's usually a long stringy brown nastiness.

Well no long stringy stuff from it emptying its stomach. I know what that stuff looks like from experience with my old condy. I can only guess is that it may have been a goby or sandsifter trying to clear out some sand in the area that the anemone stays and stirred up some mulm (not sure if that is the right term)or whatever. Or may be it was moving itself deeper because it seems to be further back in the recessed area now. I did talk to the LFS guy I purchased it from and he said that they will wiggle themselves into the sand. I am not sure that they move/wiggle that fast but am fine the way things are at the moment. Any how I did a large water change, the anemone is still alive and growing, and nothing died. Thanks everyone
