Does anyone run their tanks without any type of mechanical filtration? No filter sock or sponge or filter floss?

I normally do, with the recent setup i am running a filter sock. but will probably rmove it at some point.. I would not recomend running without one unless you just don't want to clean it.

My tank runs without any sponge or filter socks. For filtration im simply running Skimmer, fuge and Carbon/phosban reactor

Any problems with detritus? Or will the clean up crew and skimmer take care of that?

I have a lot of detritus and micro bubble when i stop using mine. I had to take my out b/c i don't have room for it any more. Just try both ways for a couple days and see what works better for you.

I just took the filter sock out now. I also added an elbow with a tee at the water level to lessen the noise. Both seem to be working great. I don't think the microbubbles will bother me much. Until recently I was still using the diffuser plate from my wet/dry with a piece of floss on top. The water fell about 1 foot into the sump. The corals didn't seem to mind the bubbles all these years.

Same here. No mech. filtration except skimmer. Only slight detritus problem is in the sump, which I clean out about every other month. Water flow and clean up crew take care of the display tank.
