i would not get a sony

I second this opinion, I myself would also not buy a Sony camera. Proprietary Sony memory stick, colors and picture quality aren't as nice as Canon or Nikon, etc.

The canon that Tony posted up is a great camera, or if you're willing to spend only $100 more than the Sony I'd shoot for the Nikon D40. It's a great entry level DSLR, so you would have the option of expanding your lenses down the road.

ok so far ive gone to see the nikkon p80 and a panasonic something of another.
and i would have to say the pics on the panasonic were sweet, really sharp.
the two of them coast the same. 399.99$
but the d40 is only 100$,but now i think im going to far with this price,i mean i dont even know if im going to like the whole photography deal.

Also i would love to go by Tony, but im kinnda busy at the time, like trying to catch lunar wrasses, and kids partys.
could you post a pic with your camera?
ALSO THANK YOU BOTH FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!

Or you could check eBay or Craigslist and pick up a used Canon 20D (like I did...) for about $400. FANTASTIC camera, when new it was about $1500, beautiful pics, well built and rugged, and even weather sealed.

Awesome choice! I love the versatility of having a DSLR.

Just keep this in mind, later on down the road when you buy new lenses, the D60 does not have an internal focusing motor, so you will have to purchase lenses that have built in motors.
