ok so i got some small clumps of green hair algae growing in my new 20 hi and i don't like it so what can i do to get rid of it. basically, what is the simplest method of ridding my tank of this stuff. should i just leave it be and let my cleaners take care of it or should i take it out? anyone with info i would greatly appreciate it...thanx

manually removing it isn't a bad idea.

Hair alage is a water filter, it filters phosphates and impurities out of the water. You can start with RO/DI water but if you are going to feed your tank you will add phosphates to your tank. Add a hang on the back fuge with Chaeto or a phosban reactor to remove unwanted impurities. Sometimes you can just add a ball of Chaeto to your main tank, it usually sits in one place. And the biggest thing is be patient it will take a little while to fix itself.

You can buy a phosphate remover pillow made by fluval at petsmart. I put it in my filter. I use ro water but still get a tiny bit every once in awhile. To manually remove it use a toothbrush.

thanx so much for all the info. i am looking into the hang-on fuge. would you know which would work best for a 20 hi? you know brand or model? thanks again...much appreciated...
