I just came back from Florida where I attended a conference. During the week I was gone I my wife bought me a surprise. A four lined cleaner wrasse.
"As a juvenile, it will eat parasites from placid tank mates. Adults feed almost entirely on polyps of stony corals. This is one of the reasons this is such a hard species to keep in an aquarium. Four Line Cleaner Wrasse is a very fragile fish and should only be cared for by a very experienced aquarist."
Yup you guessed it 3 of my prized SeaWorld coral colonies are all but dead. I'm going to frag them on Wednesday when I have a chance. The bases are all picked clean. I'm going to try the coke bottle fish trap to see if I can trap him. I'm in pain....

OUCH! Sorry to hear about you losing the corals. Frustrating but as you said, it's the thought that counted. Always a good idea to tell family and friends GIFT CARDS ONLY when it comes to aquarium stuff. My ex's sister found out I was into aquariums so she went out and got me a tiger oscar and yellow labdichromis (sp?) from Wal-Mart for Xmas. She didn't know I only had saltwater tanks and not to buy fish from Wal-Mart. I had to set up a temporary tank to keep them and get them back to being healthy before I could give them away later.

That really sucks Vince... You still need to come by, but make sure you have rid yourself of that fish. I hated to get rid of my bicolor angel. :(

Ok, I'm still being plagued by this fish. All attempts to capture him have failed. After totally finishing off two of my corals (one he has stopped eating?) He has started on other things, such as my frogspawns. I will be building a new fish trap. I believe it was called the $2 fish trap on another post? The inverted coke bottle trick didn't work. I will post pictures of my progress, so that others may benefit from my pain if this should happen to them.

I wish I read this earlier to warn you about the frogspawn. I had one kill about 20 full grown heads ($300+) of my frogspawn last year. :at_wits_end: I'm still angry about it. I couldn't find any information about the fish until it was to late. It was sold to me as an African Cleaner Wrasse...I think they made up the name. That was the reason I couldn't find any information on him. :bareteeth:

Ok, I caught him!!! Ace lent me a fish trap he had built and I set it at an angle on the rocks. I started feeding mysis in the container last night and this morning. I had not used the top of the trap yet. When I got home from work the 4 lined wrasse was in the trap and I was able to quickly snatch it out of my tank just by placing my hand over the top and lifting it out. I've attached a picture as a warning to other about this fish (coral killer). I will also attach pictures of the corals he decimated. The fish trap will be returned to Ace and be added to the loaner library for MAAST members. Did I get that right Ace?

well, it was a pretty blue fish so you know she really tried. you might not want to tell her you fed it to the neighbors cat though! just kidding.

Hmmm, That's not the wrasse I was talking about but it's good to know what not to buy for my tank.

Wow! Now we know why he's so pretty...eating all the pretty corals. Thanks for this huge warning to us all. Feeding him to Toonces sounds in line.

Here's what my little friend did. He is now in my nano with my 2 purple firefish that my son gave me for my birthday. Might be foolish but I'm hoping they'll come back partially and I can frag them.

That is a bummer, these are nice looking fish but I read they were prone to doing this.

Actually his intense coloring is starting to dull...Otherwise healthy though.
