Iwaki RLT 70 pump very loud. It almost sounds like a box fan. I bought it from bigkglen, and he had one on his tank that was silent. Any ideas on getting it quiet?

Did you just fire it up? How long has it been running. Could just need to work it self in. If you have a ball valve restricting water it will run louder as well.

been running for about 2 hours. I turned it off and oiled it, then plugged it back up. It is moving water like a son of a gun, but just too loud to think. If it is going to be this loud, I am going to have to plumb it out the wall to my patio.

How is it plumbed? What is it sitting on? These need to be mounted on something rubber, and if you have it hooked to hard plumbing, you need to re-think that. HD sells a rubber coupler that couples 2 pieces of pvc together. This makes a HUGE difference when plumbing to hard plumbing.

I do have it hard plumbed, but the noise I am hearing is not the loud hum, its literally sounds like a box fan on high, but the noise isn't coming from the fan side, it comes from inside the plastic housing.

Might have a shell or something stuck in the impeller.

I read that using hard pvc will increase the sound. What about using flex pvc? I use a mouse pad under my pump to absorb the vibrations.

it has little rubber standoffs that seem to absorb all vibrations at the base, and I hear the hum associated with pvc, but I am more concerned witht he fan like sound. I will diassemble the pump and clean it and see what happens.
