It has been a few years since I had a reef aquarium setup and I'm in the process of starting up an Oceanic 180 gallon. From my research thus far, it looks like the Southdown sand (I previously used) isn't on the market anymore.

I want to stick with a shallow bed, between 1" and 2" overall. From the calculators I will need roughly 200 lbs. What are the current alternatives? Since I'm not focused for the DSB, my only two concerns are it is white and easy on the wallet!

I have been looking at the:

CaribSea Aragonite Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand that is at Petsmart

This looks to be the best dollar / color combination. Any other alternatives around?

There doesn't seem to be much around anymore as far as Southdown goes unless you purchase a pallet or something. If you find something, let us know!

I've seen people go barebottom with cutting board material on the bottom of the tank.
