Someone at a lfs told me that before you use a wavebox that you should call your tank manufacturer to see if your aquarium is wavebox ready. Is that true? He said that it was because of the added stress of the waves. I think that since that lfs only sells Vortech and not Tunze that he was just trying to sell the Vortech stuff to me.

I'd love to hear any feedback, positive or negative, on your Vortech MP40W or your Tunze Waveboxes.

That is true. The impact of the waves will provide additional stress on the seams.
I would play it safe and check.
I dont know if a wavebox nulls a tank warranty or not, officially prob does.

When considering the use of a wave box, factor, the longer the tank, the greater the chance of a seam failure.

Waves are about resonance / frequency. Just as certain earthquake wave frequencies cause certain buildings to fall, each tank will have its own frequency failure point.

What size tank do you want to try it on?? There is a tunze nano wave maker that is coming out that uses a 6055??, iI think as a motor. I saw this and the vortech in action at MACNA and both are very impressive. If I had a choice I would go with the vortech, but even those put out a nice size wave as well.

It is going to be on a 40g breeder. I think that I'm going to go with the Vortech instead because of its Reef Mode. It will randomly change the speeds and simulate the ocean better because there isn't going to be the same wave with the same speed and frequency every single time.

What LFS in Austin were you at that carries Vortech? I ended up having to order mine online. Having said that, though, I LOVE my Vortech. The fish spend all day playing in the flow of it, the corals are all happy and polyped (is that even a word?) out, and it just makes for fun viewing of your corals. I absolutely adore the thing and wish I'd ordered it sooner.

I saw them in action at an awesome lfs in Arlington called the True Percula. It is by far the nicest lfs I have EVER been too. The staff is very knowledgeable and they have some sweet frags and acans and stuff.

I think I'm going to order mine online as well. I just can't click on checkout when I see that price tag in there. I just need to close my eyes I guess!!
