Photos might help. Anything picking on him? Could he be wounded? Any disease? He might be scraping himself on rocks causing the flaking. Any odd behaviors or problems with other fish or tank inhabitants?

its just like a thin white layer. but the tang doesnt have that. only the royal gramma. could it just be something he's doing. it just looks like he is shedding. very little though. the reason why i see it so well is because he is about a littl eover three inches long.

As far as I know, fish don't shed. Sounds like he's got something going on.

I had a royal gamma once and he had a bad case of ich and glanced himself off the rocks a lot. It did this enough that his/her nose was peeling. I bought a cleaner shrimp and it basically saved him/her. I noticed once when I was at the aquarium in Corpus, they had a royal gama that looked like it was 'shedding' but it was huge. I never thought anything of it. Do you have a cleaner shrimp? Maybe it'll help?? Just a suggestion.

My cleaner wrasse (I know save the you shouldn't own one comment) keeps my fish well groomed.

I have had several shrimp...but my last one I think my lunar wrasse had for lunch. I can't really keep them though I had this shrimp for a couple months....its possible he just found a new hiding spot I have not discovered yet. ...but I think lunch.

I had a cleaner goby once...it never cleaned...it was too much of a chicken.

That cleaner wrasse though he cleans the Regal Tang, the yellow tang, the lunar wrasse, and all the clowns...no problem. Occasionally the sixline will slow down enough...

The shrimp..cleans the wrasse. ;)

I have an ich free tank though...I had to treat and do a MAJOR QT when my regal brought it into the tank.

I used a single Formalin treatment...then did QT switches 20 to 20 for six weeks along with leaving the display tank empty but running and have not had any problems since.

My fish are more social now than they used to be...but they had close quarters for a while.

All I can say is kick whatever it is...so it doesn't take any fish.

Then QT QT QT..I don't even add macro or snails without QT now.

Burned once...woo!

I hope your baby gets better...just remember if it is ich a cleaner wrasse can and will get it too. So please don't buy one to get rid of this problem. It could kill the wrasse and spread it around.
