Hey, hope everyones getting started off to a good week.
I'm currently plumbing my first reef ready tank and building a standpipe. Does anyone know a good place in SA to purchase 1 1/4" schedule 26 pvc?
Also, since I'll have left over pvc from the standpipe riser, can I use 1 1/4" pvc to drain into the sump, or should I use 1 1/2" or larger? It's a 1" bulkhead and I'll be pushing about 500 gph.
Appreciate any info or help y'all can provide.

The larger the drain you use, the better it will operate, and the less noise you will have. Take a piece of tubing - like the kind you use for an icemaker (slightly rigid), and shove it from the top of the opening all the way past the drain. This will allow your durso to "burp" and it will be pretty much silent.
Why do you need schedule 26?

Yeah why do you need schedule 26? Everything you need to make the standpipe can be bought at Home Depot or lowes.

Everything I've read about them so far, from discussion on reefcentral and Richard Durso's website had recommended sched 26 for the riser tube. I'd thought I'd read some discussions that attributed problems w/fluctuating h2o levels in the overflow and gurgling problems w/sched 40. But, if y'all used sched 40 w/no problem, then I'll give it a shot.

The tank I just plumbed is all sched 40, including stand pipes. No problems.

I think the amount of gurgling is a factor of the durso design, not the type of pvc. I had a durso kit come with my tank. it is schedule 40 and it is silent.

Yeah, now that I've built my first one, I don't know either why they insisted on scd 26. I went ahead and played it safe and used 1 1/2" sched 40 pvc since my overflow box had the room.
BTW, I just shortened the drain pipe into the sump so that it's only a few inches underwater, and the gurgling stopped. Sounds like it was related to pressure buildup within the drain line itself and not a problem w/the standpipe.
