Good morning all....well no, not really for me....this is not the first time this has happened to me and my zoas, and really I am stumped. The zoa rock is purchased full and completely covered, then it slowly, but surely, dies off. The rock below was covered like a carpet, and now look at it. Any suggestions? My water is perfect, all at 0 for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, temp is at 78,salinity is 1.022,ph at 8.2. The other zoas in the tank are fine, as well as other softies. They are next to other zoas, so I do not think anything is petsering this to death!! Here are some photos.http://i317.photobucket.com/albums/mm395/austinaquatics/zoasthatsuck002.jpg

Zoas are Zoas, lol. Ive come to find out some species will do amazing in my tank others look like crap or die. Are those cherry bombs? I doubt its anything you are doing wrong, they simply do not like your tank. You could always try dosing Vitamin C; Zoas respond well to the treatment and usually end up better than before. Id do a search on it and go from there.

I have the same problem. Sometime it's best just to see what happens. Sometime zoas will start to die off due to environmental causes. I usually jsut let it run it;'s course and the survivors usually are much healthier and will soon start to reproduce again. I have not noticed any help from the vit c dosing in my tank, but some people swear by it.

I had a medium sized colony of orange zoas that where half were wiped out due to a snail. I was going crazy thinking it was my water or some additives I put in at first, then one day I saw a little movement and saw the snail. I figured cool a hitchiker. It was not until I actually saw it in one area one day and the next day it was bare that I figured it out. I did some research on snails and scraped clean its shell only for find out that type of snail did have a habit of eating zoas and originally did not notice the pattern on its shell due to the growth of stuff over it. Mama I think I met you for the first time at the Austin meeting. If anything thanks for the nice welcome. Hope this helps. It was an easy fix.

I would first shoot the polyps with a turkey baster just to clean it up, see what happens. If they perk up or atleast stop dieing, then I would try to direct some more current at the rock.
Did you do a freshwater/iodine dip before putting that rock in your tank?

I used a baster to blast off all the "junk" in between the zoo's. It's amazing how much was in there. they perked up almost immediately.
