Why can't I get rid of my cyano? I dosed the tank twice with blue life red slime remover. The first time I followed the directions exactly. The second time I didn't do the water change. Both times the cyano died back to a small area in my tank. I have 2 koralia 4's, use 1 cup of carbon and 1/2 cup of gfo every month. My skimmer is always on. I also have a good size cleaning crew. The cyano always seems to start up in the same spot. This area gets morning light through a neighboring window. Could it be the light? Can I get rid of it by pulling it out of the tank or will that only slow it down?

what type of water are you using for top off and water changes?

how deep is your sand bed?

r/o water for both with a ppm of 2. 1" or less sand bed. Sometimes the critters move the sand.

I believe 1/2 cup of GFO is not enough. I would at least triple the amount on a 180. It is always a good idea to remove problem items from our systems, too include cyano.

X3 more flow. I am running 2 Vortech pumps wide open on the reef crest mode in my 180, but I dont have a big return pump either.

And spot on with the more flow inputs.

How would more flow help? The strands that flow from the surface of the cyano blow in the water. Does the cyano not like heavy water flow?

I think my nitrate test kit may be old. Do any local fish stores use salifert or other quality test kits? I wouldn't be surprised if my kit is reading zero and it's actually not.
