It would work, but I would defiantly go larger. The larger the better. With a tank that big, you'd be much better off making the sump much larger. I'd use the biggest sump I could fit under the stand if I were you. Yes, you can make a fuge section in the sump.

This may help you in making a sump:

Or if you wanted someone to build it for you, I'd ask Ace (Hobogato). I've never seen his work in person, but from the pics, he looks like an amazing craftsman who makes some great stuff.

I am in the process off setting up a 125, and currently I have 2 55 gallons sumps that I am going to get trimmed down to about 40 gallons each. So 80 gallons total for the sump and fuge. As far as light goes I am going to run 3 175 watt Metal halides, 6 32 watt 50/50 PC lights w/ workhorse ballasts, and 2 48 inch t5's w/ tru actinic. I will also be installing t5 no lights over the refugium.

I would put my rag tag collection as a minimum if you are going to keep sps coral. If I had the money, I would go with 3 250watt Metal Halides, and 8 36 inch (312 total watts) t5ho's w/ tru actinic. A lot of people used to talk about watts per gallon(minimums being 6-7 watts), but I think there are too many factors these days.

Buy a 29 gallon, it should fit nicely and will house a skimmer large enough for that tank. Don't skimp on anything or you will buy twice, seriously.... :)

For lighting, take a look at D and A Custom's for sale thread here:

http://www.maast.org/forums/showthread.php?t=44589

He has a great price on a 72" light fixture with 2 single ended 250w MH and 2 48" VHO.
