Biocube question??

Hi guys,
I was wondering if I need the "sponge" type filter that goes in the third chamber of my biocube? The biocube is 29g and I have 30lbs of live rock, black sand, and a protien skimmer. Oh and I'm still using the bioballs in the second chamber.

take out bioballs use LR rubble
