Hello there,
I'm at my last frozen cube and before I go buy food I would like to see if there's something different that I can get my fish.
I usually feed them Marine Cuisine, and food label Spirulina/Brine/Mysis Shrimp from Wolf Reef. Now here's the Dilema. The Marine Cuisine not only have the 3 main components from the other food (Spirulina/Brine/Mysis) but also has many more ingredients added to it. However, the box for the Spirulina/Brine/Mysis Shrimp shows a way higher Percentage than the Marine Cuisine.
So, should I go for the one with more ingredients, or the one with Higher percentage?

2nd, is there another food that you recommend? that way my fish can have something different. I'm sure they don't want to eat the same thing everyday, the same way I wouldn't want to eat platanos everyday.
Here's what I have
1-Bicolor Pseudocromis 1-Yellow Tang 1-Hippo Tang 1-False Percula 1-Picaso Triger(huma huma) 1-Flame Hawk

One should ALWAYS look at the moisture content. One popular brand of foods has 1/2 as much "food" in a typical 16 oz pack as most of the others. A blatent ripoff.

When I feed frozen food - which is pretty much daily - I feed a combination. About once every 6-12 months, I put together a group buy from Drs F & S. I buy about 25 lbs of food of various kinds. Then I thaw them in a salt bucket, mix them all together, and then repackage them in 1 qt ziplocks.

i do the same as bill. last purchase was: mysis, brine, cyclopeez. thawed them, mixed them up, and refroze them in quart sized bags. HUGE cost savings in doing it this way.

Very true and the water is full of phosphates most of the time as well

that was my old regiment, now that i have them all mixed together its much easier.

fair warning should anyone decide to add cyclopeez using the bricks. use 1/4th of how much you think you will need.

Like Bill, I order from Drs. Foster and Smith. $19.99 shipping no matter what you order. If get 6 of something gets cheaper too. I try to stick with Hikari foods. Just got a box in today. I get an assortment and go with variety:
cyclops, reef plankton, daphnia, mysis, krill, rotifers.
I get the cubes and feed diff assortment of 4 cubes at a time.
Havent yet tried the flat packs, thawing, mixing, refreezing technique..........yet.

you should, cubes last me forever. using flatpacks re-packed, i may never need to buy food again.

Maybe we should have a "food mixing" party!

I find I spend a fraction of what I was buying cubes. And it's a whole lot less of a hassle - especially when you have someone else taking care of things on the weekends.

When is the next group order guys? You can count me in. Unfortunately I will need to buy a box of frozen food today since I'm out of food. I was wondering which one I should get for now until the next big group order?

I just picked up some Rods Food at Aquarium Designs last week and am pretty impressed by it so far. Here's a link to the ingredients: http://www.rodsfood.com/info_ingredients.html

This Rods food looks interesting, hadnt seen that.

Tony/Bill: So you buy the flat packs, thaw, mix, refreeze into ziplocks as "new" flat packs and break pieces off? Or do you putt in small ice cube trays to make "new" cubes?

I take about 20-30 lbs of food, and dump them into a salt bucket. I stir it throughout the day, to get it to thaw. The temp stays very low, because of all of the frozen food. Once it's thawed out, I spoon it into quart ziplocks. I then re-freeze it on cookie sheets. Stack it up in the freezer when frozen. I then just break a section off to use.

That might be an interesting fundraiser. Instead of a bakesale, we should do a frozen food fest. Even at a little mark up, MAAST would make some cash for programming and everyone has access to good quality feed at a lower cost.
