Yet another newbie question guys!!:hypnotyized: For the past few days I've noticed "white things!!" all over my glass and in the water. It's not bubbles and I've noticed them moving around on the glass. These things are VERY small but if you look close you can see a little tail and 2 antenna on the other end!! I have hundreds and it's making my water looked "stirred up".
After doing some research, I've come to the conclusion that these are either pods or snail spawn....what do you think? (There is no way to get a pic of this...they are just too small.) What do I need to do to get this under control? I want my clean looking water back!!
I have a fairly new 29 g biocube with 30lbs of live rock, a protein skimmer, 10 snails, 10 hermit crabs, 1 cleaner shrimp, and 3 peppermint shrimp (no fish yet!). I do a 10% water change every week, clean my skimmer every few days, feed only 3 times a week, and run my lights 10 hours a day. I have beautiful purple, pink, and green coralline. I tested my water this am and everything looked okay. Not sure what else to do to get my sparkling water back again.

How long has your tank been running? Add a small wrasse! I would say tank is to new to put any of the dragonets in!(hints the newbie?) Fish will help!

Yeah!!! Fish may help! Won't a wrasse make it hard to add more fish later....aren't they mean sometimes? I was hopeing to add 2 clown fish first. My tank has been up for about 3 weeks.

I wouldn't worry about the pods too much. It's normal for a new setup to have a pod explosion. They should thin out in a week or two.

Great. I was hopeing it was nothing to worry about. I'm trying so hard to get this right...even though it's killing me to go so slow!!:)

Deanna, before you go tossing clown in there, you should look around www.liveaquaria.com (http://www.liveaquaria.com) in their "nano fish" section. Clowns can be aggressive as well, which is why I suggest looking hard at what you are going to put in there. Good Luck! :)

Thanks for the suggestion. I have thought a lot about what kind of fish I want and I really want clowns. If that is all I can have in my tank I'm fine with that. Early on I was given a great bit of advice....Figure out the one thing you HAVE to have in your tank and built your tank around that one thing. Well my one thing is clown fish! For Christmas I will be getting either a 90 or 120 g tank for my living room and plan on stocking that with a few different kinds fish but for my 29g it will be clown fish.

I bet those are copepods you're talking about. As mentioned, they bloom during tank cycling and whenever anything dies in the in tank. Don't worry, they're a sign that everything is going well w/your tank acclimation. If you're really worried about it, a 6-line wrasse will help control their numbers.

Do they look like this?

When I 1st started my tank I had a bunch of them that came out of no where whenever I added liquid calcium reactor. Then when it was time to add more fish I added a Sixline Wrasse and they disappeared. Then I added a fish that died and they came back again. I have 6fish in my 55gal now and haven't seen these little guys again. Well, at least not with my naked eyes
