I caught this fish at the Port A jetties on saturday while I was catching peppermint shrimp thought it was a blenny at first. Maybe a scorpion fish. Please help. Thanks Joe

I think it's a Sargassum Fish.

or as you said:

Let's wait for one of the pros to chime in...

My last trip to Port A last weekend brought me 75 peppermints, 1 large 4" mollie miller blenny and one 2 incher. Over 100 small hermit crabs and over 100 margarita snails (small black snails) and 2 large turbo type snails. 2 sargent major damsels too.

I was super stoked and want ot go back. The pure excitement of catching something that could potentially go in your aquarium is hard to bring to words and most people that are not in this hobby would not get it. My entire family was out with flash lights and nets and going out of their way to catch the next red eyed shrimp :)

No way I'm missing the next Big Bird collection trip. :)

Pretty cool find. I hear of the Sargassums being caught frequently but not so sure about the Scorpion fish.

Cool find.

You keeping him?

I know the feeling. I brought back around 60 peppermint shrimp, 5 mollie millers (3 over 3"), and this stow-a-way. My girls didnt want to get dirty nor my wife.

As for keeping him, not sure if it turns out to be a scorpion.

Man...that's a lot of Mollies...sweet! Their mohawks are super cool. Oh and my large one that I caught and added to my tank killed my 5 inch sand sifting orange spot diamond goby. Kind of upset about it because the diamond goby was keeping my sand turned and not sure the mollie is doing anything beneficial for the tank other than competing with prime algae locations that the tang has claimed.

I could see almost the same color pattern of the toadfish, but the head of this fish isnt flat. Well I've decided that I'm not going to put it in the tank. Well it's free if someone wants it, and its around 1" long. Thanks Joe

Looks like a scorpion fish to me. How big is his mouth? Watch him carefully, he will eat anything he can stretch it around.
I brought back a small Sargassum Angler from Port A. I use long tweezers to wave whole krill in front of him, he strikes and gulps it in before I can let go. I was told he will eat anything that is not bigger than him.

The fish is so small and camoflauged to tell the size of it's mouth. I put some brine shrimp right in front of it, and it did'nt do anything. It's been next to a plant just sitting there.
