We recently upgraded our powerheads to the Maxi-Jets(with upgrades). Is there an ideal placement for these to go in the tank?

Our tank is placed in the living room and the first view of the tank is the side. I don't want the fist thing for someone to notice is this mechanical device in the tank. We are trying to place it in the back on either side of the overflows (RR tank), but we are unsure what corals need direct flow and which just need a little. We have a variety of coral - SPS, LPS and softies(zoas, zenia, leathers, green stars, yellow polyps, etc).

Any advice would be great.

I would not aim the powerheads directly at any of the corals. You could aim them towards the front glass, or, you could aim them directly at each other behind all of your rockwork. I have ample spacing behind my rockwork to allow for free flow of alot of water, and I have my Koralia #4s in the back facing each other. I have my return forward facing so it crashes the front glass. You want turbulent, random flow. Some corals will need time to get used to it, but if after a few days they seem retracted, I would move the coral to a better suited spot.

Overflow's in the middle? How about on each side facing away from each other. Should get some current interaction as the flow hits the glass sides and re-directs them towards each other. Scorpino's right, don't point them directly at any coral or invert.

We currently have them on the back glass on the outside of the overflows. They wrap around the overflow aiming towards the middle of the tank. I did not think to aim them directly at the sides of the tank.

I also noticed they have to be about 6-8 inches from the top. If not, then I will get a tornado effect and it will create micro bubbles.

They do directly hit some of the SPS we have. I will have to move them when I get home.

Is this too much flow? Mag 7 pump, Cap 11oo pump & 2 Maxi Jet 1200's with upgrades?

If they like it, leave them. If the polyps are retracted, move them. I have a mille that takes whatever I can flow at it.
