Since the plan is to set up our 60 when we get moved we're currently hunting for rock. Any suggestions?? I've got the space to cure it so thats not a worry but the 7 dollars a pound really hurts the pocket book. Hubby just about cried the other day when I came home with one rock and it was $20.

Im not sure where Harker Heights is but Ed at phenominal has the best price in town on rock. Usually around 3.99 for premium fiji but he also sales dry rock which is super cheap. To save on money id recommend buy mostly dryrock with a few peices of live rock. Throw it all in a large trashcan and cook it (let it cycle with a pump) the dry will be liverock in no time.

Best: check the for sale forum on this site and buy used from someone selling out
Second: Call your favorite store and ask when they are getting a new shipment of live rock, go through it pick out the best and stack it like you want it to look in your aquarium, take it home and cure it.
Third: one piece at a time, shop around find the perfect piece buy it, take it home and cure it, and then add it to the exisitng system. Sometimes $20 several times is not quite as bad as $200 at one time.

Harker Heights is about an hour north of Austin, up by Fort Hood. I have a feeling i'm going to have to make a trip to SA before long anyways in hunting for acrylic for a sump. It stinks not having a FS anywhere around here.

That's a little bit of a drive to come to SA for live rock. I've had luck w/liveaquaria.com before and their fiji and tonga (if you can still get it) live rock.

If you plan on making the trip to SA, I've got about 85lbs. for sale. It's in the For Sale forum along with my 45g tank. The rock has been in an established tank, covered in purple coraline.
As others have mentioned, try finding someone tearing down a tank selling the rock at a discount. Also, some of the LFS will make you deals if you buy it buy the box when they get their orders in.

I have used noth www.liveaqyaria.com (http://www.liveaqyaria.com) and www.marinedepotlive.com (http://www.marinedepotlive.com) when I first started 3 .5 yrs ago. Then I found MAAST. (Skies open up and a light shines down and music starts to play) Come to S.A. Pack a picnic lunch and load up.

In my opinion phenomenal aquatics (wolf reef) is the best place for live rock. I think it is like 3 dollars a pound. I bought rock there on sale, it was 1 dollar a pound for dry rock, and only 2 dollars a pound for live rock, great deal.

I've got roughly 120lbs of rock I pulled from my tank. It is drying out on the patio. Had some nusance pests and macro that needed to go so I started from scratch with the new tank. Once it is fully dried it should be cooked. If you are interested, I would sell it for $100. There are some larger pieces in the group. Here is a pic of when it was set up:

I've always enjoyed the market square downtown. Also, the IMAX at the RiverCenter mall always has some good selections to watch.
