I posted yesterday that a seam blew on my 180g, but the post was lost with yesterday's (second) outage so...............

The front right seam of my 180g blew yesterday. Long story short, I was home at the time (thankfully) and immediately clamped it back together to slow the leak while moving fish, corals, and rock to other tanks/barrels/tubs.

My 45g frag tank is now housing 3 tangs, 3 clams, 3 anemones, 2 clowns, 1 copperband, and several corals. My two 18" engineers are in the stock tank with other corals and rock. Everything is now reasonably stable.

However, I still need to get the tank fixed! I have left a couple messages for Kingfish, but have not heard back yet. I have heard/read great things about them, but time is critical.

Are there any other places in the Austin area that can do this kind of repair? I'm guessing that Weldon 40 should be used to put it back together, but I'm no expert.

Looking for advice, ideas, suggestions, etc. Need to get this thing fixed and back in service. Help!

too bad you are in cedar park, i could fix it for you for free if you want to bring it all the way down here.

[edit] i guess if you want to pay for my gasoline i could come up and fix it for ya (still free).

After you get the tank clean and dry set it so the blown seam is down and fill it with the thick weldon (cant rem #). I would probably add a little square rod in the seam as well to give a larger surface area to your repair. Let it dry, fill with freshwater and pray. I had to fill my tank 3 times before I got it leak free...

Thanks Brian for your message. I do understand you have other commitments. Hard not to panic a little when your tank is splayed open. I think it is under control now.

Regards,

Ed

Many thanks to Ace and his family!!

Ace and his family drove up yesterday and even after getting stuck behind a huge wreck on I-35 for hours, not only repaired my tank but also made several improvements. :applause::applause::applause:

Ace used the method Erik described, adding a 1/2" square rod to the joint not just where it busted, but in all 4 corners!

Thanks again Ace. Your help is much appreciated.:bighug:

I must repeat, Is this a great club or what??
