So I did a major water change last week and tried to scrub what looked like hair algae off. And was what I think is pretty successful...It was alot of work but the tank looks so much better. What was left now looks like it is dying. Its turning brown and fallng off..
Anyhow, I also found alot, I mean alot of bristle worms and I took a picture of one of the many big ones I pulled out. This is only part of him as it tore a couple of times before I got him all out..:whew:

Nice, good you got some out. You will always have a few in the tank rather you see them are not. Nasty little buggers

No they are not reef safe. But then again it depends on the person that your talking too. Thus the reason I pulled them out..I killed all of the ones I pulled out.. They are so ugly. You wouldnt want these in your tank.

:lauging: I'm sure he was joking with that question.. they are good Detritus eaters, but doubt they could ever do any harm to healthy tank inhabitants

Everyone has them in their tank.:p They are mostly nocturnal creatures but they are some times seen during the day. These bristle worms are definately reef safe but only become a problem if there is too many of them. The bristle worms that aren't safe are Hermodice carunculata (coral eating fireworms)...What you have is Eurythoe bristle worm ..which are benificial scavengers. I highly doubt you killed them all. I think the only way you could do that is to kill your live rock.
btw..cool pics

My problem was I had toooo many of them, I killed the ones I was able to pull out. :applause:There still is a few in there as I always see them come out during the afternoon during feeding time. I personally dont like them in my tank, thus the reason I noted "It depends on the person you are talking to" I had an anenome die in my belief because of these things.. One night they were all over the anenome. Couple days later anenome died. Just wanted to share the pics...I hope in time to eventually get rid of all of them:blushing:

Your anemone was probably on its way out..died and then you saw bristle worms all over your anemone. They were probably just doing their job trying to clean things up.

Ughh, those pics creeped me out. Forgot how nasty those things are. One of the old owners of the Aquadome used to preserve large ones he found, and kept them in jars in the upstairs area. Gross, gross, gross!!!

I have a few of them, They have never harmed anything.... I think they are good scavengers... Sometimes Ill see a drifting piece of food leftover and I see them stretch out to get it. Not bad if you ask me. I like them, keeps the Tank interesting :) Now you do know the one you tore is still alive as the rest of it heals and regrows right?

I don't see how something so beneficial to your tank can be considered unwanted.

Can anyone post a pic from the coral eating type of bristle worm? I'd like to compare in the future so I can be more selective in removal.
