I purchased this clown from Ace's class a few months back and have been enjoying the fish since. It was sold to me as a Ocellaris, but I've never seen an O. clown quite like this one. To me it looks like it might be a Percula. I don't doubt Ace or his knowledge of marine life, but I do question what I think I know from time to time. :) Any thoughts on what type of clown this is? Thanks!

Well, first I can say that it is a MIS-BAR as the last bar isnt complete. It also looks as if has aged a bit. I first thought it was a black onyx but the more I look at it, it looks like an older Percula. As clowns get older they sometimes get darker. This one certainly isnt an ocellaris. I would say it has more to do with a genetic error more than age as it doesnt look full grown.

It's not full grown. It's a fairly small fish still (barely 2"). I'm pretty sure it's less than a year old.

True Perc!! just a genetic mutation that caused the missing bar. This is how picasso clowns and no stripes appeared in the hobby.
