I have a Biocube 14gallon. It seems to me that the temp in the tank keeps running about 82F on average. My house A/C is usually 78F. I have alot of rock in the tank. How much rock is too much rock for a 14 gallon? I know that the rock can contribute to heat absorption in the tank. Any ideas?

I don't know if there is too much rock, but I would 18 lbs would be pushing it. From what I undersand it is 1 lb per gallon. I have about 50 lbs of rock in my 30 long tank and the room it is in has a window unit set to 77. The tank is always at 79. I have 4 36 inch t5 HO's on the tank + a submerged return pump and skimmer.

That's one one of problems w/smaller tanks, imo. Less h2o, therefor less heat energy needed to raise the tanks temp. Like Coralline79 said, there's no such thing as too much rock.

you could have a bad thermometer. Are you running it stock with no extra pumps, powerheads, lights?

I would think that bothering to worrying about heat absorption is pretty much pointless when comparing it to heat production on a nano. Just get a little tiny computer fan to help with the heat, you just have to top off more.

I bet if you replaced the stock pump with a MJ900 your temps would drop.

tank runs in that range as well, even with an mj900. but i have a fuge light that might add to the heat. i wouldnt worry about that, but if it gets past 85 i would really worry

btw, thats what i run the house at as well. ill be adding a powerhead in the tank so ill see how hot it ends up getting

Has anyone ever tried that Ice Probe made by Coolworks? The specs for them seem to say you'd need 2 on a small tank to be effective.

78F in the house??? eek... I start melting when my apartment gets over 74F... hahaha. My BC14 has no heat issues either.
