i am only typing with one hand because my urchin stung the dog.... out of me. be careful guys. my fingernail is black. it is kindof scary but watever. be careful when you have your hands in the tank, cleaning, feeding etc if you have an urchin. those spines are longer than you think!

ouch, you must have really poked him good... I accidentally brush against them all the time at work, and never have any problems... It's the giant carpet anemones you have to look out for!

Ive been stuck by long spine urchins plenty of times, it is kinda scary when you get black stuff going on under your skin.
To me, the carpet anemones felt like being shocked, not fun

but ive been shot and stabbed
note to self, dont buy anything from great white and go round his house... just kidding :)
ive stepped on those long spine ones before, the problem is the spines go in and shatter inside you, if that happened you need to dig them out, or if you arent sure, you can put the sticky part of a plaster (bandaid) over the puncture and it will work to the surface

I've stepped on them before. Hurts like heck. Rub lemon juice on them- allegedly, it helps dissolve the spines. They eventually go away by themselves.

You need to have the nickname "lucky" then if you've been shot and stabbed (hopefully not all at once lol.)

thats interesting....i was a kid at the time and was wearing flip flops, even so i managed to get a couple of spines in me (i wasnt walking around my fish tank i might add <grin>)
my concern about leaving them in would be bacterial infection esp from one in a fish tank..
