retro fit problem

Ok. I took my factory aquapod 24 hood and retrofitted into a canopy I made for a 10 gallon. It worked perfectly. So heres what Happened. I tested it and it worked wonderfull.
Then the extension cord I had to use was a two prong so I broke the third ground prong off of the cord. When I plugged it in nothing would turn on. So I went and got new plugs with three prongs and rewired them.....still nothing. What did I burn out by not using the third prong. It has the 2 sunpaq 32 watt ballasts and 2 32 watt sunpaq bulbs. Plus some sort of transformer that I think is for the leds and the fan. Please cantact or post me back and either help me with some way to test the different parts or know which part I messed up. I spent all night building this canopy cuz I wanted to make a seahorse tank now I have a canopy and no lights. Thanks

Check the outlet to make sure you didnt trip a breaker! The 3rd prong is just a common ground and shouldnt have hurt the light setup! I dont advise you to use this this way! It is a fire/saftey hazard!!! They put it there for a reason!!LOL! Just had to give you little crap!:bigsmile:

you would not burn anything 'out' by plugging in without a ground, your plug is still 'grounded' because the left hole in the outlet is itself a ground, the right is hot, and the 'ground' is basically a backup. Theoretically, your device should have worked. I agree with dustin21 that you could be looking at a tripped breaker, although this shouldn't happen either without the ground being plugged in unless there were a ground fault interrupter circuit in the mix. Check the breaker and let us know, I'm a little curious to find out what happened.

ya I know. Ive done it a million times and never had a problem with it. But the outlet works fine. I even bought new three prong plugs and it wont work. Im stumped

Possibly a blown onboard fuse or a reset switch?

are there fuses in the sunpaq ballasts?

Have you check to see if you have power at the socket for the bulb? If you know enough about testing start there and work your way down to the plug until you find where the power stops!
