I've got a Euroreef RS135 and I just noticed that the "SP3- Euro-Reef modified SEDRA KSP-5000A0 water pump" has gone out. Impeller and everything I can access looks fine, it just does SQUAT when plugged in. :( :( :( Does anyone know of a place in or near Austin where I might be able to pick up one of these? Or am I SOL, and just need to order one online asap? I know this isn't just any ol' pump, but I figured I'd check with you guys before subjecting my tank to the uncertain wait related to ordering online (or my wallet the cost of next daying one! :) ) What should I do in the meantime!? Ugh... Thanks in advance...

IMO I wouldn't worry about ovenighting one depending on what you have in your tank. It won't hurt to go a couple of days skimmerless. IMO

Call Euro-Reef.

www.euro-reef.com (http://www.euro-reef.com)

It may be covered under their warranty.

Keep an eye on your levels, if anything gets out of hand, water change your way out of it.

It also may be that the impeller has swelled and that is causing it to hang. The Sedra impellers are bad about this. Have you tried to manually spin the impeller (with the cover off) while it is plugged in to see if it will spin? May be as simple as a new impeller.

Call or email Euro-Reef like suggested. I ordered a pump from them last monday and it showed up on Thursday.

Their customer support was excellent and Rob would respond to emails within the hour. He'll help you figure out what's going on. Hopefully it's just the impeller because their pumps aren't cheap.

I bought this skimmer from someone else, so I don't think they'd honor the warranty. Unless someone knows otherwise?

Ed: With the pump plugged in, I took the impeller cover off, and I can spin the impeller smoothly in one direction, but it has alternating resistance - like the resistance you feel when pushing against a magnet. How would I know if it's "swollen"?

I'll email Euroreef, thanks guys. You're right, I'd much rather just order a new impeller!!!

If it is swollen, you should notice a bulge in the rubber part. It will cause it to rub against the side of the pump and could keep it from running or continuing to run. If it spins and then quickly stops when you try to spin it with the cover off and power on, it is most likely the impeller.

I just replaced mine with a new impeller (spsd-g0034) from www.fishsupply.com. $34.99 plus shipping. Works better than ever now.

Ed which ER do you have? I want to know if that will work in an RS-135.

Erik,

I have an old style CS 8-2. The pump is a Sedra 5000. They do have impellers for other Sedra pumps as well. This particular impeller is listed for the ASM G3/4. It looks just like the one that came out of my ER (except that the needlewheel is black not clear and without the telltale bulge) and works like a champ. HTH.

K, I'll check when I get home from work. Thx for the link, Ed.

Erik, let us know how that cuttle tank comes along. Very cool.

Check with Aquatek. They carry euroreef stuff. I got my impeller from them.
