Its waaaay OFF!!!
This is brand new out of box today. I wish they were able to be calibrated like my portable one. You just need a glass of ice water and a screwdriver!
Pics to show how bad it is. Note that both therms are in the same ice water that should be just above the freezing point of water (32 deg )
Taking this one back!

I like the American Marine Pinpoint wireless thermometer, can run 4 tanks from one wireless base unit.

You would think that it could be calibrated...its so easy to do. Either with ice water or boiling water.
When I opened it up and put it in my tank with all the lights on the temp was reading 76.5 , when it really was 79.3...wow that could really mess someones tank up!!!

No prob...thats what this site is for!
Whats funny is , I have read the product reviews from some of the major online stores and this is NOT a new issue. I guess I tend to take some of the more simple items I buy for granted. Thermometers have been around since 1593!!!!!!!

Put it in some ice-water and tell us what it reads...its takes a few minutes to stabilize. It should read between 33-34 deg.

Checked mine this morning seems to within a half of a degree comparing it to a glass thermometer, which I checked against a wall thermometer. Mine is over a year old, maybe a bad batch?

I had one that was junk as well. One day it kept creeping up higher and higher on the temp. By days end it was reading well over 100.

Buying a thermometer:
Cheap thermometers have ALWAYS been this way.
BTW, I have 3 of these, and they all seem to work fine. I don't trust them for anything important though...
DrMark, I'd definately be interested in where you got yours.

This is what I use. The first unit is about $30 and additional sensors about $20. Can run upto 4 sensors.

I checked it against mercury glass thermometer and has been very accurate.
I have been happy with this product.
I keep the base on the desk and can monitor tanks that are in different locations at same time.

Now that I think of it... I pretty much don't buy ANYTHING with any of the ESU names on it:
Coralife & now Oceanic (there's old & now new Oceanic)

Mine read a few degrees lower as well. So I just bought one of the sinking ones to keep an eye on things.

I have one of this brand thermometer and consider it worthless. It will read 4-5 degree temperature changes within seconds. Absolutely worthless.

As was mentioned in this thread, and so many more old threads, the product is sold as "Coralife" so what did you expect? Did you expect it to work?

Yes
As was mentioned in this thread...thermometers have been around for a while. Cheap digital ones are fine with me as long as they are adjustable. I thought this one was.
