Newbie here; so bear with me here. I have 3 nice segments (colonies) of Xenia coral that has been perfect for the past 3 weeks. Late yesterday afternoon I added a Koralia 1 power head to my Oceanic Nano 29g cube to help create some additional water movement. Last night everyone seemed happy go lucky, this afternoon the Xenia looks like it’s on a diet and is laying on the sand. Please see before and after pictures. I have moved the coral behind a larger rock thinking the water flow is what is killing it, not sure if it is to late or if this will come back for me. Any ideas or suggestion, please PM me. I am pretty sure the little guys were getting to much flow on them, just not sure if they will make it or if by moving them I am doing more harm then good. Please see pic's; alive is taking 6/21 and dead is today.

Have you tested you water? Please give us all specs! Water changes recently? Xenia normaly likes alittle flow in the tank! I dought the powerhead is your problem! Is anything else having problems?

My bad, just finished reading the instructions on this forum. Everything else is good, no floating bodies all other coral is fine.

Water Specs:
SG 1.022
Alk is 3.0
pH 8.4
Nitrate is 0.1

Last 25% water change was 12 days ago. Recent addtions are a small Green Clown Goby and type of green brain coral that was no where near the Xenia. Branching Frogsprawn is happy (thinking this is the most delicate thing in the tank).

Thanks,
Brian

as i recall the xenia actually prefers low level nitratesnot low like nonexistent, but low like 10 or 20

The strange thing is I have my water tested every week and there has been little to no variation. Like I said I am pretty sure the powerhead put a little too much flow to it. Just not sure if it will survive or not.

Thanks,
Brian

My xenia get droopy if I move them. They always get back to normal a day or two later.

Since I have moved them out of the direct flow they are looking better, will see what they look like in the morning.

thanks,
Brian

Just be careful of them. If they start really crashing, they can be very toxic to your tank...

Frogspawn hates Xenia and sounds like it is the most aggressive thing in your tank.

I read somewhere, don't remember where, that if your tank ever overheats xenia will start to die off about 2 weeks later.

That's not been my experience though.

So did it recover or is it still the same?

Sorry for the delay in the update. It was the powerhead\water flow to them, turned it off and within the day they are looking 100% better. I need to find a better place for them or change up the location of the pump and all should be good, after another 24 hrs I will post a pic of them.

Thanks to all for the responses,
Brian

point the Koralia behind your rock work...

Yeah my Xenia hate constant flow.
