looking around at Fintiques I stumbled on a display of light that were just sitting there. So i asked the guy for some info. As i am asking the worker on them i notice 2 guys standing behind me as if they wanted to buy them so I went ahead and took the guys word (its a good deal!) and bought them. So i am looking for some help on these and some info. It has 4 dual bulbs 1.) 10,000 k 2.) 65 watt odyssea 50/50 3.) 65 watt odyssea blue and 4. 65 actintic light. Plus the ballast. You can see from the second photo (on)... the actinic doesnt seem to light much but that is what the salesperson said it suppose to do. Any help on this light would be appreciated. Would this be ample for a coral reef 55 gallon? i bought the lights for 50 dollars.
thanks in advance! - E!

What kind of corals are you wanting to keep in the tank? It is a power compact set up so most softies will be ok! Are you mounting them in a conopy? How far off the top of the water will they be mounted? If you plan on going with MH's later down the road you could reconfigurer the setup to use as your actinic's! For fifty dollars you didnt do bad!

Hi Thanks for the response I mounted them to a 3/4 inch plywood that will act i guess like a canopy. the light are hinges so that i can open them up to remove the bulb easily. They are 4 inches from the top of the tank as seen on 1 images on the side by side. (2x4 + 3/4) 4.25 inches. Soft corals?? will this be ample for anemonies???? thanks - E!

Soft corals and anemonies should be fine! soft corals are like leathers and mushrooms. Do a little looking around on the site and you will get to see alot of soft corals. You should stay away from the SPS or hard corals for now.

Oh and the 1 50/50 bulb should be changed to a 10000k or similar bulb! Just to make enough light for your corals! The anemonies are picky and will move around your tank until they find a spot that gets the lighting and food they want! The 50/50 will work but when it needs replaced change it to 10000K!
