Hello,

I'm finally upgarding my standard flourescent fixtures with two of these:
http://www.reefgeek.com/product/36_inch__2x39W_SLR_T5_High-Output_Retrofit_Kit_w!_Bulbs_by_IceCap.

My questions is what combination of bulbs should I go with? I want to have the blue tinted water affect but still want to have it to cover close to a daylight fullspectrum. I was thinking of maybe these two:

I plan on putting this on a 135 gallon 72"LX18"Wx24"H that is currently stocked with:
120lbs live rock
Chocolate tang
Niger Trigger
Eibl's Angelfish
two damsels
hermits & snails

I may start buying corals later, so my lighting choice is very important becuase it will be my primary lighting. Im only looking to spend $300.00 max on lighting. Any advice you all have to offer will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

These are not really good to have in a reef tank. You may luck out though, but it's not really worth trying it IME.

Also, you will need at least a 6 bulb configuration for each half of the tank for a total of 12 bulbs if you are wanting to do corals, especially SPS. I wouldn't try it with less.

Ok so with corals not being in the picture any more, which light would be best for a fowlr? Im on a strict budget on the 12 bulb configuration is out of my price range. Thanks for the help ScorpiNo.

imo fish only do not need much light.

You could go with that configuration, but in all honesty, I would go with all white T5s to amply light the tank. You could buy some inexpensive LED lunar lights for night time. I would keep saving up and add lights as you can. :)

Yeah I was looking at those too. I thought the icecap reflectors on reef geek would be better but being that I only have fish only setup I think I just may go with these.

I know, I just like the look of the lighting on the reef aquariums so I wanted to simulate that effect without spending all the $$$. Why does this hobby have to be so expensive...I have a hard enough time as it is justifying my aquarium expenses to my wife. Thanks for your help everyone.

Niger triggers are fine in a reef tank as long as you have good filtration. Just add any cleaner shrimp first or @ night. Besides myself , I have seen many successful reef tanks including greenmako's tank with a niger.

As for the bulbs , go with a combination of daylight 6000k by giesman , 11000k aquablue from geisman, and finally a UV super actininc .

I don't no why people just use white lights for fish, fish have colors that come out with the right lights just like corals do.

Thanks for everyone's advice! I will take it all into consideration when I order my new lights.
