I am wanting to put a top on my tank but don't really want a big production. Anyone have a low profile top that keeps the carpet surfing to a minimum.
Thanks

Most of us do not put tops on our tanks so that we have good gas exchange. If you are worried about jumpers use Light diffusers aka egg crate.

I don't use a cover/glass/hood but my canopy does a good job of keeping jumpers in the tank.

I was thinking of the egg crate. I have already had one jump out of tank. I wouldn't cover water, it keeps temp up, but I would like to limit the jumping out. I am thinking of just putting some egg crate inside the lip of the tank. Has anyone done this and noticed much difference in light intensity?
Thanks

I had a jumper yesterday. I lost my Niger trigger. Something told me to look behind the tank and there he was.

you could put bird netting(real thin like fishing string netting)over it. Home depot and lowes has it outside in the plant section. Only have it in black though, Ive seen it online in clear before.

I think the first step in preventing jumping is to not buy a fish known to jump, simple enough, however, sometimes you do it and cross your fingers hoping for the best. The eggcrate will work and if its a fish only tank, the reduction in light will probably not be that big of a deal. The problem may be heat, if you can maintain acceptable temps, the Id say go for the diffusors.

We were covering the 210g with eggcrate and lost a long nose hawk who just jumped up through the eggcrate, landed on top and fried under the MH. So eggcrate is not totally guaranteed...

The only thing I have ever had jump out of a tank was an adult convict cichlid...after my fingers when touching the auto feeder...
He thought i was lunch.
The tank I would be concerned about I just keep the water level a little lower.
You can have a cover cut out of acrylic and have holes drilled through it at regular and frequent intervals and a small knob or cutout put on it for access...
a glass shop with measurements could do this easy..
It would just look like a cover...but would allow gas exchange

Ask biocube14, he has a sweet mesh top. He should have it posted in the nano portion of this site...

Thanks for info. I have had a few jumpers over the years. I have a 210 that has only been up about 7 months. I had a Lawnmower bleeny take the dive the other day. I don't even know why he would have been at the top. The tank only has a tomato clown and 2 blue/green chromis. I just want to decrease the chance that they will make it out. I will be switching over to MH soon, so I might look into some kind of wire/thread mesh. I think I have seen something like that before.
Thanks

Is that the small square pattern netting? I believe I have seen a few people on ReefCentral use that stuff. They buy window screen trim and use the bird netting in it. Its smaller and less obtrusive than eggcrate.
