I'm looking for references/sites that are good for identifying zoanthids and palythoas.

I know of www.zoaid.com (http://www.zoaid.com) but I'm looking for an entire library or larger one or something with a wider variety of the different morphs and community of names assigned to the different types.

Also, I know that the names are not registered and really mean nothing but they should be...everything needs a name or way of referencing besides color location.

Thanks!

Thanks Kevin. I have a couple that I'm having trouble getting an exact match. Probably due to lighting differences and maybe mine have morphed a bit. Anyways, was just curious if there was anything else to use as a reference.

I'm thinking that at some point zoaid.com will become some type of registry for the names and become recognized. I know you can submit photos to them and name your zoa if it's not already in their database with a positive ID.

We could possibly start our own MAAST ID Zoa/Paly forum similar to this:

Both R2R (as you note) and ReefCentral have zoa ID forums. Sometimes the response is "go look on ZOAID" and sometimes a positive ID. I'd start by posting here.

Remember that the names are just that. People name them and many times have different names for the exact same species. Many of the pics on zoaid have been photoshop'd. You may not be able to identify every species you have so you can easily come up with your own name.
