Well, since you're offering...the vortech's will be fine! LOL

vortechs over tunzes IMO. However, they are a new technology and tunzes are tried and true.

I've used both and I'll stick with Tunze. They are coming out with a new multicontroller soon that will be around $100 cheaper than the current one they have. They will still offer both but the newer one will be a lot nicer :) You program it via a usb cable and can do more tweaking than the original one.

New Tunze stuff:

Plus there is going to be a new feature on the newer controller that hasn't been anounced yet. Something to do with flow patterns....

Tunze, theyre tried and true, simply cannot beat the customer service, and you can aim tunze pumps

I have heard of problems with the Vortechs. I am getting my first pair of Tunze 6101 Streams and using it with the AquaSurf module for the Aquacontroller.

The new controller coming out from Tunze should cost less but will only be configurable from a computer. The new pumps will not be out until the fall and look more like the Nano Steams from what I have read. I am not very patient so went with the 6101s.

Once you configure it with your computer, you do not need the computer to run the controller. It will be standalone.

Tunze.

I've heard way to many complaints of the pumps magnets separating from the impeller in the tank. You end up with your impeller on the bottom of the tank, hopefully it does not break anything on the way down, and you could possibly ruin the motor if it crashes to a hard surface such as tile. I've seen a few people that had 2-3 per tank. I wondered why the impellers were on the sand and was told they separated so often that the owners quit using them due to the hassle.

I looked into Vortech for my tank and was told, by Vortech, that I could not use them on my 3/4" thick acrylic tank and that they do not recommend using them on any acrylic tank. The impellers are known to leave scars on the acrylic due to heat from the motor, vibrations between them, and the possibility that any grit could get caught between the panes and the spinning impeller.

I'm a Vortech man, less obtrusive and the flow algorithims are awesome. Their customer service is top notch also, folk's seem to forget that tunze's had a few issues as well when they were introduced. I just like the neater more compact look.

Cheers,
