I just got my box of TMPR salt in yesterday, and I'm going to be doing my first wc with it later this afternoon. I typicallly use Seachem Reef Salt, and was wondering if the TM really is that much better. Judging by most of the reviews I've read, alot of people stated that they got better SPS coloring with TM vs. other salts. Do any of you guys use this stuff? If so, how do you like it? I'd really appreciate any input from anyone who has experience with both salt mixes. Thanks, Glenn

I, too, use red sea coral pro on main tank.
For the new 115g SPS tank I may try the Tropic Marine also.
From Foster and Smith price is about 20% difference.
On a cost per gallon basis:
Red Sea Pro Coral is 0.263 cents per gal.
Tropic Marine is 0.325 cents per gal.

I think what I ordered is a 17 lbs. box?? Anyway, it's enough to mix 32 gallons of water. That should be enough to see if it's worth the extra $$ in my 40g. Oh yeah, it was about $25 with shipping from marine depot.

I know not all salts are created equal but, If you wanted more Ca, Mg, Alk, I or Ph than the other wouldn't it just be easier to add the needed minerals\elements\suppliments to your salt when your mixing it with water???

We've used TM Pro, red sea pro (deltec salt is manufactured by red sea FYI), seachem, etc and switched from all of them. TM pro is incredibly expensive comparitively and we've seen an increase of brown film algae with its use.

The best salt to date that we've started using is Tunze's brand (manufactured by HW) IMHO. It's pricelocked at $63.63 and is really a great salt.

Thanks,

John

Well as you know I'm still pretty much in the rookie stage of reefing. For lack of a better way to put it, I guess you could say that I'm just testing the water!! I used to use sw that I bought from TFH. I don't know what they use, but it seems like I was constantly running the mag float over the glass back then. I eventually bought an RO/DI unit and a bucket of Seachem reef salt. I've been happy with the Seachem, but just wanted to see if my tank likes this stuff any better.

Btw, the next time you go out and catch 442 peppermint shrimp please let me know!! I've noticed some aptasia in my tank that I would like to irradicate.

Tried it before when Alamo Aquatics was out of everything else. No complaints. Mixed up w/correct PH, good dKH, and Ca levels.

Beginning to think there's no such thing as a salt mix that's the fountain of life. They all pretty much seem to same no matter how much $$ you pay. Although, Coralife salt pretty much sucked.

Let me know how many you need. I'm sure I can accommodate you as early as... um, today. :)

I would think 2 would be fine. Do you still have my phone #? I dropped my old phone and lost all the #'s I had saved. If so give me a call tomorrow (today I guess). I should be free most of the day.

Sorry Off Topic:

Just 2... They don't live for ever ya know. One will almost certainly kick the bucket within the first month. How about 5 or 6? Another alternative would be to give you some of the smaller ones so that you can put more in. The more Peps to search and destroy those pesky aiptasia, the better. They are aound in inch in size. LMK what you want to do.

And yes I still have your number.

On a side note: Ever since my tank has been up (Oct. 23, 2006), I've had peppermint shrimp in there. They were the normal part of the clean up crew I would order from Reeftopia.com. Well, I have Never Ever seen Aiptasia in my tank or refugium (No Peps in my fuge as they will wipe out my pods). I used to buy 10 of them for $4 a peice because I thought it would be way to difficult to catch them. Plus I thought that it was a long drive to Port Aransas and a long walk to the end of the jetties which is about 1/2 a mile I think, but it all gets shorter everytime I go.
