I noticed twice last week that it was making a scrubbing sound when it first started up. then a few minutes ago it was running fine and then started a high pitched squeeling scrub. I turned it off and drained it and uncrewed the 8 screws to take off the housing, but something is attatched inside.Feels like a wire, but not sure. It is a 15 current prime. I put this in the emergency forum, because my house is hot in the daytime, and my tank was running 82-3 a month ago with 3 fans on it. Anyone know what to do, or who in Austin I can take it to?

What brand of chiller is it and how old is the unit? Could be the compressor is failing. The design of aquarium chillers is pretty simple, not that uncommon to fridges or ac units. A appliance repair shop could take a look at it but having the correct parts to fix it may be another story. You may have to wait till after Memorial Day to contact the manufacturer to see how they recommend fixing it.

So sorry to hear this.
As you know I got this chiller from Princer.
I believe she said it was only 6 months old. Maybe check with her and see if she has purchase date info, maybe a warranty situation, I dont know.
Like LoneStar says above also.
I feel bad, as youknow, it worked perfectly for the month or so I was using it.
I hope it works out.

Thanks Mark, I will check with her. I am not sure, but it sounds like it needs to be lubed and adjusted...but I cant figure out what needs to be detatched to get in there. Current doesnt seem to have any help past call tech support, then every link to tech support takes you back to the home page. Driving me nuts. I think I will call an AC repair or somebody like that.

it is a prime 1/15 Lonestar. I cant seem to figure out how to remove the housing. If I could do that, I am hoping some grease, and/or allen wrench will do the trick. Sounds like loose fan, or bearing. The only thing is taht there is a thin metal line running from the top of housing down the left side to the unit. I assume the control panel is attached to thermostat which is part of what I am seeing. Just dont see any way to free it up.

Hamp, I forwarded you the information from the reciept. It worked perfectly for me as well. Sorry you are having difficulty with it. IF there is anything I can do to help with the warranty, please let me know.

well, I finally got this thing apart by removing the bottom panel(major PITA) and checked out the fan. It was squeaking and vibrating on a slow turn, so I am going to grease it and put a little wd40 in between the magnetic shaft and housing. Hopefully this will do it, and I might even be able to put this thing back together.

It's most likely the evaporator fan motor. I bet it has sealed bearings so putting oil won't do the trick. But you never know.
Ac repair tech's usally won't touch them. You'll need to call an appliance repair company that works on window units and/or small fridges. Mr. Appliance is a good company in Austin, or find someone that will let you bring the unit in. This usually saves you a service call charge.
Fan motors aren't cheap, but they're still less than buying a new unit. Hope you get this resolved soon. Looks like summer came a bit early this year.

well, I greased the evaporator fan shaft and wd40d the housing, put it all back together with only a small handful of nuts and bolts left over. Tricky little thing to get into. Hooked it back up. I thought it didnt come on, but with closer inspection realized that the **** thing is running quieter than my mag 7 now. Not saying a whole lot, but way quiter than it was. It is going to take a few minutes to make sure it is cooling, but I dont see why it wouldnt. Man, if it works, I am outta deep s!@t. I am leaving to see my fam on wed, and was not wanting my girlfriend to have to deal with keeping this thing cool without a chiller. Or, traveling broke after buying a new one for 350 at aquatek. Thanks for the info Princer, and I like you again DrMark.haha
