for about 9 months ive been using two daylight's and two flouresent blues CF's(compact flourecent)

i dont really like the mix, the white and blue just dont mix for me, i light the bright white tanks. so what should yall think i should use. 50/50? arnt 50/50's mixed blue and white lights? would my future corals be fine with out blues? cuz ive heard that that is important to em. i have two timers that turn my blues on first at 7:00 and then my daylights at 7:20...then daylights of at 5:40 then blues at 6:00

A 50/50 is exatly that it will put out the 420 or so nm range (wich is blue if you read) and the other half is closer to a 6500k wich is on the red spectrum. most corals need all of this in their required spectrum, However some don't so you have to do the research for each individual coral. READ SOME ONLINE. There is tons of research out there explaining exactly what is happening with what equipment. That is part of the fun is learning about what you are doing and how to keep what you have. Still ask questions but if you read some you will learn interesting stuff about the hobby you would never think imaginable.

It's a bulb that has both daylight and actinic. It will give off a more blueish color than a regular daylight bulb and less blue than an actinic bulb.

Here's a quote:

"In many situations, because you will only have one row of bulbs, you will need a 50/50 bulb in order to be able to spread the actinic and full spectrum daylight lighting evenly. The 50/50 bulb has one half of a single power compact bulb actinic and the other side full spectrum daylight."

Get use to reading a lot of info...it's the only way to survive in this hobby.

We need memory card readers in our heads so we can just swap cards from time to time and upload/download.

lol guys!!! what do you think i do while im at school? haha i sit there with my nose in marine aquarium books! i have like 5 that have like 500 pages, and ive read all of them at least 3 times each. i really want to be a marine biologist, you wont find me doing that kind of stuff with normal books:bigsmile:. yea i have two rows of light, two on one side, and two on the other and the whole lighting fixture is 48" long. so would yall recomend me swapping out my blue's for 50/50? which would be best for corals and will it be any less watts or K of the 50/50 lights? and one of my friends said that switching to 50/50 might cause a algea bloom, is this true?
