How many test kits do you have? And what do they test for?

Wow... this is a 'loaded' question... :)

'Chemicals used are chemicals needed', based on water parameters and the needs of the tank inhabitants.

A good reference for water parameters:

Basically, if you are not testing for it then you shouldn't be adding it...how else would you know if you are short or adding too much?

1 no
2 maybe
3 maybe
4 no and no
5 no
6 no
7 no

Most of the things on that list ARE essential elements that are in the basic makup of any good salt., just do regular water changes and save your money.

there is no sercret mix of chemicals that will provide you with good results.. long term stability is the key to success

Don't add chemicals unless you are testing for them. You do not have anything in that tank yet, except for fish, and all of those elements can be replenished with water changes.

The salt you buy has a list on it of the contained elements and at what percentages. Someone had a great link about the brands and what they contained but I have no idea where it went. I use reef crystals, which is a great salt right out of the bag.
