i got 80 pounds of carribean sea aragonite dry livesand today.is that stuff good? it says 77% is less than 1mm and most are less than .66, you think that will cause a sand storm:nailbiting:? i have two power heads in there, a korolia #3 and just some other random one on the other side.

what.. dont tell me that. i paid 140$ for that stuff...it says it loaded with all kinds of good stuff. to many things that i cant remember.. and its proven to reduce nitrates. have you ever tried it, you forsure its not good? and didnt answer my other question, is it to small, will it cause a sand storm?

You should be good to go.....don't point your Koralias straight into the sand and you will be fine. I used that same sand in my previous tank and it was fine. Koralia 3's in a tank won't push that much to create a sand storm. As you place it in the tank, do so slowly to avoid that sand storm, but it will get cloudy...it will settle.

maelve im so glad you said that, i was paniking like litteraly. it was alot of money and that store s an almsot 2 hours away and thats the closest one and my mom isnt going to take me there for a while, not with gas these days. but after a day or so there will be no sand flying around or anything good clear water? and is it a good buffer for your system?

You'll be good. From what I have heard the buffering capabilites is a non-factual argument in aquariums. It does help with Natural Nitrate Reduction (NNR) when you have a Deep Sand Bed (DSB)...

It will be a huge help. You took all of those rocks out right? It's just sand and real live rock correct? You are spending your money wisely. It costs alot on the frontside, but after it's all said and done, the monthly costs aren't bad at all. I have three #4s in my 75 with about an avg of 4"-6" sandbed depth in the display and in my 29 below it has 60 lbs of sand. I put my skimmer on the sand, and packed live rock everywhere else it will fit. If there was more it would stick out of the water almost completely. You really cant go wrong adding live rock or sand. It helps immensely, and adds to the biodiversity in your tank which just makes for a better kept tank. THANK YOU for taking all of the advice I have been trying to beat into you! :) Stick with it, there are clear skies ahead...

I use carib sea sugar sand ( i didn't buy live..cept one bag when they were out and paid 26 instead of 19 for 20 pounds instead of 30) the live sand has goodies in it...shells and rock pieces and misc substrates...and I don't know how much bacteria is really there that you won't get on your own from time...

anyway i have had anywhere from 1"-6" sand bed depending on the tank and time and unless my powerheads or return pumps are pointed directly at the sand I really don't have a problem.

Even if you did...eventually the sand would adjust to that flow and settle. It will be cloudy for a while.

If you buy non live sand be sure to rinse well. Even live sand leaves a foam on the water...making me wish I could rinse it better. The filter will remove all that but it will take a day or two to see your tank again.
