Hey guys. I own a euroreef rs80. I think its time that I drill a gate valve on the collection cup, so I can direct the goo to another container from the collection cup. Does that make sense? So, where should I drill the hole to put the valve? On the side, or on the bottom of the collection cup? If I were to do it on the side, how high up should I drill? Would the acrylic melt?

not sure that is a good idea in the first place...mainly because the skimmer up and neck should be cleaned regularly for optimal performance...if you make a hole in the collection cup so that it can drain into a larger container, you may have a tendency not to clean the skimmer on a regular basis...just my 2 cents

You are correct. That is the whole point, lol. That is a very good point though. Thank you for bringing that up. Your 2 cents has been seriously considered.

drill the bottom as close to the middle as possible.

If you are going to drill it, drill the bottom. Less likely to crack the acrylic drilling into a flat panel vs a side of a curved tube.

Weld On #40 should give you a good bond between your acrylic collection cup and a pvc or nylon ball valve.

Running the drill in "Reverse" helps you not to prematurely penetrate the hole before it’s completely bored out to the bit's exact size. If you have ever drilled thin plastic then you'll know what happens... the bit will forcefully squeeze through and crack the plastic. It has happened to me on other plastic modding ventures. HTH.

Hey guys? What is the point of the air adjustment valve? Isn't it best to just take it off the line? To run wide open? Or is it better to not run wide open?
