Dear MAASTARDS,

It has been a VERY difficult decision, but I have come to a place where I have decided to really focus on living a simple life. I don't want to get all spiritual on you, but everyone always asks why we are "getting out." To answer the question, every "yes" in life to a purchase, an appointment, a relationship or anything for that matter becomes one more cog on the wheel. I look at how "busy" we are in life and I have come to the place where the "American dream" has become the American nightmare for me.

I am tired of maintaining things, feeling like I am owned by things, and being so committed in life that I don't have time to enjoy the people around me. So, beginning late Thursday night I will start posting a list of everything I have with prices.

I will be holding things only by payment with paypal at leehoy@verizon.net I will first sell corals and the green carpet anemone. Then inverts, rock, fish, and then equipment. I will not be selling at "garage sale prices" because I have some really unusual stuff and my wife and I also want to work towards being debt free!!

The list with prices will go up soon, you can see some of what I have on my build thread here on MAAST. There will be pieces of coral included with pieces of rock because they have attached or what not and the prices will be accordingly. Some pieces of rock have several corals on them.

I have met some awesome people here and have really enjoyed the hobby, but ready to relax from things.

And the sharks attack!

Sorry to hear you are getting out of the hobby. I know there's been times I've sat and wondered how/why things get so complicated and tedious. Sounds like you've made some tough decisions, I hope they work out for you and will make you happier in time.

Lots of PM's already. I have something going every night this week (including Thursday). So I won't get a price list together until then.

I won't respond to PM's yet for dibs because of the following reason:

1.) These won't be garage sale prices - I am not getting out because of an emergency. So you will have to decide if you want these. For instance, the Dussiemer Tang is NOT cheap to begin with, much less good luck finding an accurately identified one. I will be asking what I paid (and good luck finding one even for that price). Obviously, more common fishes and corals will be reasonably priced. The Leopard Wrasse eats ANYTHING!! I am pricing according to finding one that eats anything (go pay $20 and take the gamble on one you don't know).

2.) I don't want to be unfair to everyone to give them a chance to snag something.

3.) I really just don't have time. YET! ; ) Simplicity baby!!

BTW, I really have enjoyed everyone here, I have learned a ton, met some outstanding people and will try to get to a meeting now and then still.

Lee,
Now to remove my buzzard suit....we've been looking for a Leopard.

I truly understand how you are feeling...I thought about it each time after the crashes, especially the $3k SPS loss but I trudged on. I sometimes wish for the simple life but for me it would be a push towards retirement. I'm not ready. I hope that you remain in contact with us and I await the 30g cube build that it will take for you to keep the "insanity". I have enjoyed the great conversations with you and hope for many more...you'll be back...LOL!

Please feel free to call anytime.

Sorry anyone is getting out of the hobby but it will welcome you home anytime. I feel like this hobby gives me the peace it is now taking from you. It allows me to share a hobby with my children and husband.

I hope you find the solace you are searching for. Should your life relax you may be able to come back in a smaller way and find the joy again in the hobby that brought you to it in the first place.

Should any 36" lights be left or small lights for a nano tank ( i have a 40 gallon hex ) I will be interested and would be happy to pay for a hold via paypal.

Good luck! Thank you for sharing with everyone.

Lee - Sorry to hear about your departing the hobby. I have thought about departing also many times. I keep coming back to my senses each time when I think about how delicate this hobby is and with knowing that I am actually keeping ocean life in my home. What a joy it is to know that I have control of an eco system....the joy also comes back each time I am able to share this with people. And also having little kids in my life lets me watch in amazement when I see their faces looking at the reef. Sometimes you have to look at all aspects and things you might not realize in finding peace. You have a reef for a reason and you know what your doing and you do it well - this was no mistake! something or someone brought you to that point.

Sorry to hear Lee.... Your tank was setup beautifully. Life's priorities shift around a bunch, so I do understand your predicament.

Thanks so much everyone for the kind words, do realize I am getting rid of tanks but not "leaving" the hobby. I still plan to visit from time to time. My love of things aquatic hasn't left (in fact, I hope that this will actually free me up to go see it around the world rather than just a box in my home). I do plan to keep my books on fishes just because I love them so much.

It isn't a search for peace as it is so much just simplifying things to be able to actually enjoy the life God gave me more.

My gathering for tonight was canceled so I hope to be able to get a price list up soon.

Ok, here is the deal. I have a 29 Gallon BioCube that I have decided to keep. So I will be keeping a lot of zoa’s, some LPS, the meteor shower cyphastrea, and my goby with pistol shrimp! Most of the SPS will go, but will keep some. Some SPS are attached to a rock with other pieces and I would rather sell the rock as a whole which will make for some pricey stuff but for a very cool rock.

For pictures, please see my tank build here and on RC. To tired to post pictures.

Garrett (Addboy) is the only one with dibs because of a deal we made when I first bought corals from him. So those I bought from him that I decide to sell I will give him first dibs when I list them tomorrow.

Also, I do have planaria (redworms, they don’t bother me) but I DO NOT HAVE any SPS pests.

The coral list will be added tomorrow after I have decided what to keep and what to let go.

Please PayPal at leehoy@verizon.net (prices take into account any PayPal fees)

The ONLY trade I will consider would be for a Current USA Sunpod 20” or similar quality HQI light with legs that will mount on top of the BioCube.

I have been asked about selling the whole setup, I prefer to part out because the loss financially with selling everything at once is just too great.

Obviously, I will need to keep equipment currently in use until all flora and fauna is sold.

EQUIPMENT

215 Gallon Oceanic Brick Tank/Stand/Canopy/Sump/Plumbing/Bulkheads/Ice Cap Cooling Fans/Screen Covers/Overflow Covers/ CJ Standpipes/Live Sand - Tank does have some scratches. But the beauty of the setup really overshadows the scratches. Ask people who saw the setup. [SOLD - Jennifer]

Here is how the pricing on the Tank package will work

$1500 – (3) payments of $500 to be made once a month for 3 months
$1350 – (2) payments of $675 once a month for 2 months
$1200 – Cash up front

Anyone choosing the payment plan but then changing their mind or not making the payment within the time stated above will forfeit 75% of the money paid toward the purchase. I am doing this to help those who would like a large tank but might not have all the cash up front, but I am taking a risk thus the higher price.

CORALS

Ok, we own three (3) digital cameras and I can't find a single one right now!!! I will get pictures when I can and you can check the build thread and some pictures will also be on Greenmakos where you can see his corals.

1.) I will be available today from now until 11:00 p.m. for coral pickup and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. (sorry, need a date with my wife)
2.) You may paypal to hold but if you get here and want more NO problem.
3.) No holding without payment.

Some are so attached to rocks that it will be a package deal!!

SPS First:

1.) Rose colored Aquacultured Smooth Acro (can be seen my build thread). I have NEVER seen another one like it and this even has a resident tiny barnacle like creature living in a branch. - $50 [SOLD & PICKED UP - Mark]

2.) LARGE Turbinaria Cup Coral (Really cool green color) This this is beautiful and is awesome under actinic moon lights at night. At least 7 to 8" across. My photos make it look grey (flash washes it out). I love it. $60 [SOLD & PICKED UP - Mark]

3.) ORA German Blue Polyp Purple Montipora (Bought from D. Blackman) - 1.4 to 2" frag $20

4.) Combo Rock - Neonish Orange Montipora cap (2.5" across), 2" inch Green Milli (from Greenmako) which has spread onto rock with nice base, and very pretty purple monti digi mini colony. All on one rock about 2 to 3 lbs. PERFECT for SPS nano tank (I already have too much I am keeping as is). - $70 (that is for 3 corals and nice piece of live rock)

5.) One of the best SPS in my tank. A tri-colored tabling acro bought from Garrett (Addboy) when he sold his large tank (remember I was first on the scene). This thing has purple tips with a green body and dozen's of branches. I have only had this thing for a couple of months and growth has been amazing. Up high under Phoenix 14k's. It was in the center of my tank! $100 This is NO frag. [SOLD - Dr. Mark]

6.) Pink Milli (from Dale's Tank through a LFS) - Mini Colon (No frag) Amazing piece has totally covered the base, spread onto rock and shot up a bunch more branches since I purchased. - $50 [SOLD & PICKED UP - Mark]

7.) Huge chunk of Greenmako's Purple Birdnest (not a frag) - $40 [SOLD & PICKED UP - Mark]

8.) Combo Rock - Another green milli from Greenmako (melted on rock which has a small piece of blue sponge attached and a large purple whip gorgonion with a few zoas on the base of the gorgonian. - $55

9.) Combo Rock - This is going to be an AMAZING rock as it continues to grow. Four (4) SPS and here they are: Mike Paletta's Blue Loveli from GreenMako, ORA German green with blue polyp (1/2" with base melted on rock) from JG, Greenmako's rarest coral which is a purple with purple polyps (don't remember the name) but has 3 separate pieces, and another ADDboy special. which looks like a purple tenius type coral. It was just a base when I got it from him and so I glued it to the rock. This thing has sprouted at least 16 branches! - $165 (that is 4 corals and some of these would be $70 just for each one) [SOLD - Dr. Mark]

10. Monti. undata? (Green) which I get from Engwife. Very nice piece about 3" across at least. $30

11. Idaho Purple Grape Monti from Addboy (Garrett) - at least 3" - $35

12. (3) run of the mill monti frags greenish- $10 each at least 2 to 4" inches across

13. Purple Birdnest (not serioptrix?) this is the one with rounded tips. Niece piece from Engwife - $25 [SOLD & PICKED UP - Mark]

4.) Blowpop Zoa's Rock (at least 70 polyps or more) - $40

5.) Large rock with Blowpop zoas (at least 70 polyps), Reverse Gorilla Nipples (10 polyps I think) and (3) Blue mushrooms. Rock probably 4 to 6 pounds maybe. - $60

Well, I think BigByrd will be coming by sometime soon so he might be able to make a SA/Austin connection if you really want something.

That rock Dr. Mark bought was the one thing I really tried to figure out how to use in the 29 but just couldn't make it work.

Hey Lee,
It was great meeting you. Everything is doing great. The dwarf lion is happy in the hex, and has been seen eating our regular frozen food Saturday, and even showing some interest in a little flake this am.

Thanks again,

Mike (& Kristy)

I sure hated to see that Leopard Wrasse go but Steve can vouch that you can actually pet this fish and that to catch her I just put the net in the water, coddled her with my hand and gently pushed her over the net. I have never had a fish like her before!!

She is amazing.

Glad the Dwarf is doing well. Dwarfs have some of the best personalities among fish that I have ever seen (except for the Leopard of course!).

Thanks to all who have purchased things so far. Not a single no show yet!!

There is a good possibility I will be coming to SA on May 17th (Saturday) for a delivery and would be happy to meet others at a predetermined location and time (don't want to drive all over SA!).

Please PayPal at leehoy@verizon.net (prices take into account any PayPal fees)

The ONLY trade I will consider would be for a Current USA Sunpod 20” or similar quality HQI light with legs that will mount on top of the BioCube.

I'll take the Idaho Purple Grape and the Milwaukee PH monitor.
Please let me know when and where.

If anyone is buying equipment from Lee, I am going to meet him at RCA on Saturday. If you can make payment arrangements, I would be happy to cart back any equipment to SA as long as I can fit it in my car. NO LIVESTOCK. :)
Pickup will be Sunday at my house.
