I have a 20-gallon reef tank. I don't have a lot of space, so size is an issue. I want to begin to upgrade my filtration. I saw this (http://www.aquaticmountain.com/show_product/2651/?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=2651). Is the Fission Nano Skimmer a good product? Effective, reliable, good for the price? I'd appreciate any opinions.

Oh, it would be great is somebody local carried it, too.

You get what you pay for.
If you're wanting a better skimmer check out the Sapphire lineup available on Nano Tuners (http://www.nanotuners.com/index.php?cPath=51).

The sapphires look nice but they are all designed to be used in specific aquariums or in sump. I don't have a sump right now-no place to put it.

i have yet to read one favorable review on a fission

I have had one before, and it sucked. All it did was fill with water. I had a Rio nano skimmer for about 3 months and it worked well+ it is needle wheel driven. I did have to clean it about every 2 weeks and it has to be adjusted when you put the reserviour back on, but other than that I think it did fine. Only reason I got rid of it is because I went to a sump setup. It is less than 40 bucks at Aquarium Designs. Any other nano skimmer is absurdly expensive, or to crappy to own. I am almost positive you will have similar results with anyhting more expensive from the forums I have read in other communities.

Piece of crap doesn't skim well though the motor does have to be restarted manually and the suction cups dont hold onto the glass well enough for the weight plus the replacement pads are hard to find...spend your money elsewhere
NOT WORTH IT!!!
The LFS the sold it to me tried to sell me another nano and I was like but you sold me this one for 49.99 telling me it was great and now you tell me it isn't? Why would I want to buy another nano from you?
If anyone finds a good one...please tell me...I have to replace my crappy fission..
Speaking of...
Anyone recommend a decent one for a 125? in sump or not doesn't matter.

Glad I asked. I guess CPR bakpak will be the goal.

check out the octopus version of the bakpak as well if you buy new. looks just as good and a few dollars cheaper. AD had them last time i was there.
keep your eye out used too. make a thread in the wanted forum. i just got rid of two cpr bakpaks not too long ago and see them often for < $50
good luck!

Another one right here that threw a brand new Fission skimmer in the garbage. The pump wasn't even worth keeping around to use as a powerhead.

I actually used the pump for a powerhead on my picotope. It works great! hahahaha! Just right for 2.5 gallon.

With a 20G, you're better off just doing 10G water changes every 2 weeks. You don't need a skimmer at all.

Used a CPR HOTB refugium/skimmer on my 20h for a couple of years before I upgraded. I really liked it. Quadrupled my POD population, allowed me to have chaeto without screwing up the display space and did a fine job skimming.

I have one of these new in the box, never used it for my nano.
Thought about it, bought it, read many negative things and put it aside.
Anyone want it they can have it........
