I found red bugs on a few of my acros and I am gonna treat the entire tank with Interceptor. Does anybody know where I can get this medication locally?

Interceptor is a medication that can only be legally obtained from a vet. I have a Dr. that sells it to me (business to business) and knows about reef keeping and knows its purpose in the aquarium industry. Good luck!

Yeah I know that it can only be obtained from a vet. I should have asked if anybody has bought interceptor from any of the local vets.

red bugs do not = flatworms. The vet i used made me bring in a peice of coral with bugs on it.

I think gilbert may need to read up on the difference between red bugs and flat worms and how to treat for them.

Hey Bernie,
We have a really good relationship with our vet (we ought to with our 2 dogs and 3 cats!) and he has known us for years. I just left a message with his office to see if I could get some Interceptor. As you know, we have not worked our way up to the challenge of SPS yet, but it's good to know how to get some. I'll let you know when I hear back but it probably won't be until tomorrow because he's left for the day. I'm pretty sure we can get you some.

It is becoming harder and harder to find it. My vet stopped carring it and had to look all over town for another one that carried it. Also most vets won't even give it to you unless they physically see your dogs (at least the ones in SM). I was lucky enough to find another vet that carried it though. Bernie if you need help with treatment let me know!!!

Thanks Kristy & Mike! I really appreciate the help. I hope your vet carries this stuff.

Ditto on the making sure that you have red bugs. I have red planaria/flatworms that I originally mistook for red bugs. Red bugs are like copepods and actually eat the coral tissue and the flatworms kill the corals by smoothering them.

I am positive that they are red bugs. I am starting to take out all my hermits and I am gonna try to catch my cleaner and fire shrimp when my lights are off. I'll start the treatment on Friday night or Saturday morning. Thanks to Kristy and Mike for hooking me up with the Interceptor tablets.

You can always borrow your neighbor's dog and get it some heartworm prevention. ;)

Just finished dosing 3/4 of a large tablet. All my hermits are in a quarantine tank and all acro crabs are in my friends acro colonies. I was unable to catch my two shrimp. I hope they survive the treatment.

It's been 3 hours since I added the medication. Looks like all the red bugs are dead. My cleaner shrimp was not looking well but I was able to catch him with a net and place him in with the hermits. Fire shrimp is doing well.
