Do you think it is better to buy saltwater from a store or make my own? We have a 20 gal and setting up a 55 gal to replace it? Let me know what you think.

Buy a RO/DI and do it yourself. Initial investment more but pays for its self very quickly. Also not spending gas money to go get the water.

I've never heard of "cycled water", if you mean water to fill your tank or top off for evaporation, the Ray's advice is right on... To properly cycle a tank you're gonna need live rock to start the process, please dont use a Damsel.

yea, sorry I didnt read you post accurately. Id buy a RO/DI system as I said before and mix salt into your self. No matter what you do upgrading to a larger tank from smaller will give you a cycle; no way of getting around that. IMO try to keep some of the water from the 20g so that it help kick start the new tank; also transfer the sand.
