View Full Version : I need a store to sell me a tank

I have been to 2 stores here in town(both sponsors) and tried to get a quote so I could purchase a tank from them. neither of them have been able to provide me with anything, but promise everything. One of them, I have been to 2 times, and called 2 additional times. Where can I order a tank? I want to spend less than 500 on a 125 long tank, by itself, new. Nothing special, but hopefully drilled.

I have a 125 gallon USED, NOT drilled for $250.00 Comes with stand and 3 lights and glass tops. Was used for fresh water aquarium and just simply needs to be cleaned up (rinsed and wiped down)

I was told by one of the guys at one of the formentioned, non-named sponsor stores, that the tanks there were no good. They have the tank I want sitting out front, that is where I decided I wanted that size. My current 60 gallon cichlid tank i bought second hand was purchased there though. I don't know.... I really wanted the black silicone, I know it is dumb. I think I am going to have to go over there tomorrow and talk with them.

Oceanview makes good quality tanks and reasonably priced (well it depends on how much the store marks them up I guess). Plus they will do black silicone at no extra charge (or used to at least). Black silicone looks real sharp on tanks with black trim IMO.I don't know about SA shops but I know alot of the austin shops get oceanview tanks, you could also check with Peyton at Redcrest Pets in Boerne I think he orders from the Oceanview distributor in Dallas sometimes.

Texas, Alamo Aquatics, and Fintique usually have the most tanks in stock. They all have good prices and carry various brands. It's the aquatrend tanks that some people have had problems with.

I believe most of the tanks at Texas Tropical are Ocenaview.

I don't like the perfoecto and aqueon tanks. they have the plastick cross braces you always see broke at the store.

You seem to have something specifically in mind so I would just have a tank custom built but you may throw out your budget that way.

I've bought 2 tanks there and friends have bought 2 others, no problems at all. They don't make the tanks, they sell them just like everyone else.

I just looked at glass cages & they have a 125 gallon long (72") that is drilled(2 overflows, 4 holes) for $500. Shipping will take you to about $600.

I was looking there, and have for a while, and they only have a 90 day warranty on their tanks, and they only warranty them at all if you put them on a mass produced stand. I am going to build my own. Thanks, but I think the tanks at texas t are warrantied for 5 years, as well as the ones I have been trying to buy at the other 2 stores.

there is nothing wrong with glasscages aquariums. I personally have one, seen many with them, and have done business with them many times. They are a bit sloppy with the silicone, but it isnt like you cant clean it up in less than 5 minutes. Personally you seem to want a reef ready tank for 500 which a company isnt going to eat the cost simply because you only have 500. I say save up a bit more and then get what you want.

Only if they are on the stand that is produced by the company that makes the tanks. It may be in the small print on the warranty but its there. That's going to be pretty much the case any store you go to or any brand of aquarium that you choose.

Thats exactly true. I sell tanks and the manufacture says the same thing on all of them. It is the way it is. It is more for those that really have no clue on how to build a stand and think, OH I WILL JUST BUILD MY OWN! and then it breaks apart or leans to one side and causes the seams to split due to the uneveness and then want the warranty to kick in. NOT HAPPENING!!!!

Yup. Warranties are only good if you buy one of their stands. That's why the Prior Owner of my tank bought a stand from Oceanic. Only way a warranty works.

I have seen the tanks at Texas Tropical, he has Perfecto and All-glass (now called somthing else) always in stock, and can order oceanic and deep sea aquatics or anything else for that matter, so can Fintique. BTW, my Oceanic has that plastic that you are complaining about, they all do, if you do not like it then deep sea aquatics is what you are looking for, just be prepared to spend more then your origional budget. I have the OEM stand, do I like it? No. but if the stand falls apart who do you think I am going to be able to go after?

sorry responding late due to my current project, a covered patio.

the tanks they sell at texas tropics have glass center braces for the most part. I am not looking for a reef ready tank by the way, I am looking to have 2 holes drilled in the back for the calfo Ace is going to set me up with, and black silicone. The money I have to pay isn't the issue, all 3 stores have told me they can get me the exact tank I want for the money I want to spend, but none of them will get it for me. As far as glasscages goes, their tank is perfect, andI call them today. the only issue is they want 275 in shipping for the tank to freight it now. They make trips to SA every 2 months, and that would only cost me 100, but the next time they will be here is in July according to their rep.

if i don't have a tank ordered by friday, I am going to get the tank from texas tropics, the one they already have out front ready to go. I will then try to get someone to drill it for me.

A history lesson in 1988 I purchased a 135 gallon Texas Brand Tank, glass tops, and strip lights from Fintique for $435 out the door. (Almost caused a Divorce)

On a side note, $100 dollar delivery fee isn't bad at all. Cheaper than buying the gas to drive up to Dallas to get it yourself.

100 is great, but they dont know if they will be able to deliver it before July.
