My wife picked this guy out from Aquatek a couple weeks ago . It's been pretty boring 'till yesterday. It really puffed up and I was able to see its small translucent tenticles coming from the green rings...very cool. Sorry for the crappy pic...anyone know what it is?

looks like that will be the maroon with green mouth variety when it finishes coloring up - nice one!
the red and greens are usually green with a red mouth - they used to be pretty rare, but they have been showing up a lot more lately at the local shops. aquadome had a nice one the last time i was there and B&B and AD here in sa have had them periodically as well as River city in austin

Thanks for the input. That would be awesome if the tan area would turn maroon. Where do these guys like to be placed in the tank....flow/light wise?

depending on the bulbs you are running (how high the par is) you may want to keep it in the lower half of your tank to make sure it doesnt bleach from high light. the problem with lps is they can bleach because of too much light or too little. if it is doing well where you have it and is regaining color, i would suggest leaving it there for a while.

I second TAHGAC's ID, I had a large Favites sp at one time and it was the maroon with green centers. At night when the lights go out it will look like a large chia brain so watch what you put it close by because the tentacles are quite long. I had mine on the sad bed at the bottom and it did great. I finally traded or sold it, wish I still had it.

Thanks...I was looking at SWFish.com last night and saw the favites and thought that it might be that. So will the tan turn a maroon color? I think I'll move it to the sand bed.

It's possible but I've also seen them with more of a tan like that with green centers. Time under your lights will tell.
