i need to move my 75 gal acrylic tank away from the wall about 5 more inches so i can fit a skimmer. it has around 75 ib of live rock... how much water should i take out so we can move it without shocking my fish?

All of it. I wouldn't attempt to move any tank with water/rock/sand/livestock in it. Get you some of those rubbermaid tubs they sell at wal-mart and store everything in there until you make the move....may sound like a PIA, but it beats you having to purchase a new tank...

My opinion anyhow.

For a 5" slide, I would remove most of the water and leave the rock, but then I tend to live on the edge. :p Seriously though, I've slid tanks slowly all the way across rooms with probably 10" of water in them, moved my 180 away from the wall to cut holes and plumb the sump on the closet and moved it back, etc. It can be done, just be really careful that the rock is stable.

I would say it would depend on how well your stand is built?

Yup

And it all depends on how much cajones you got. I've moved a tank with just the sand in it....probably a 100 pounds or so. Rubbermaid containers will work great for storing your stuff. Since its an acrylic tank it will slide easier than a glass tank that has trim (that might catch and break).
