I've got a few of these guys that are 1-2". They are great, unique additions to refugiums (because they won't eat all the copepods and amphipods), small species tanks or commuity tanks with no small fish. Asking $10 each.

If anyone is interested let me know because I will be in Austin this weekend.

Cheers!

Also, I may make a detour through SA for drop off on Friday if I get enough interest.

Yes! They are pigs! I'm feeding small live fish and shrimp to these juveniles but it's possible to ween them onto frozen silver sides or shrimp just like lionfish.

From everything I've read (and can see), these fish don't show any RELIABLE external sexual dimorphism. That said, they have been spawned successfully in captivity. But I would excercise extreme caution when keep more than one of these fish in a tank as they are known to be cannibalistic if not well feed or one starts to grow much faster than others.

Now, if you still want more than one after reading this then just let me know how many you want :)

Alright, there is more interest in these little guys than I thought so I will answer some questions and give you my game plan:

a) There should be enough to go around for everyone (I have lots) so no need to worry about who was first in line etc. just pm me with the exact number you want and we'll go from there

b) The color varies slighly but it's close (maybe a little darker) to the sample pic I linked to in my original post

c) There seems to be a number of people in SA that want these fish so I will stop there around 1-2pm on Friday on my way to Austin (pick up location TBD)

If there are any other Q's please don't hesitate to ask.

They were collected from sargassum mats during an offshore trip in the Gulf of Mexico... along with some sargassum triggers but those are in my reef tank and are not for sale :)

I'm not sure how far offshore you where, but if you were within 9 miles(state waters) of the coast, then it is not legal to sell these. Any shrimp, invert, or fish collected in the state of Texas can't be sold legally unless you have a commercial license. I'm not sure about federal waters and what regulations they have, but I think it might be helpful to check up on them.

All were collected approx. 160 miles offshore... but I will still look into regulations. thanks.

I just got off the phone with a represenative from the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council which manage federal waters and they said that unless the fish are regulated species (which Histrio histrio is not) then they didn't see a problem with me selling them.

HOWEVER, because I am officially landing these fish in Texas there may be state water rules applying. Right now it is still pretty fuzzy (to me and to everyone I've talked to) so I think until I can be 100% sure that I'm not doing anything illegal I am going hold off on distributing these fish this weekend.

That said, I will be in contact with everyone who expressed interest in obataining one or more of these fish once I get a final word from TPWD that it's ok.

Any other questions or concerns please ask me!

true. maybe the 10 bucks can just be for gas money that he's using to make these deliveries! wish i didn't have small fish and gobies in my tank... i'd pay 10 bucks for "delivery!"

I don't get to go to the nice LFS in San Antonio. I know the place I worked at in Houston was almost fined by TPWD awhile back. TPWD decided that the keeping and selling of a certain African Cichlid(I think something pretty rare) was a no-no. They had to remove even the ones that were in the aquariums of places that they serviced too.

What do African Cichlid's have to do with TPWD. They can't regulate any animal or plant that isn't indigenous to Texas. I need to call my neighbor and ask him. He's rarely home, but he's worked for TPWD for 15+ years. Oh well... whatever :confused:

Unless someone was caught releasing them into local streams or something I don't see why they would get involved.

I think he has not taken to many and is being legal about it he is not trying to make a business or a huge profit some people are not even interested and just want to make things hard for other people. Well he will get everything he needs he is a good guy and then we will buy them other people are just making this harder. But I underatsnd it is important to protect the ocean. I just feel the fish are already collected its already done he is being fare about the price hes not making a kiiing just his gas to drive them here and helping MAAST members out. Well that is good of you to hold back to make sure your doing the right thing I am just anxious. I Hope it goes well let me knoew if you need anything. If there are fees let me know and if you need help I might can pay in advance. As everyone can tell this is a stand up guy welocmer to MAAST.
