Cool, great list of Herps you have there. I love my tortoise. Growing up reptiles were a passion; box turtles and pythons got me hooked. Lou is all I have now besides my aquarium. Actually started taking classes for a degree in Herpetology but decided I wanted to make more money.

I will, at some point, get some pictures of what I have. I used to REALLY be into it. I got my B.S. in Zoology and was going to do Ph. D in herpetology, but took easy way out and went to medical school instead.

I'd love to see the main living quarters for these turtles...how it's set up, what is used. We've now got land and in the future I'd like to get some.

Dee My tortoise has free reighn of the entire backyard. Depending on where you have your land you want to take some precautions. You have to worry about things like Cyotes, Large birds, Racoons etc.... I have seen people use railroad ties to make a large pen or even large bolders. Sulcata tortoises are very strong animals and can move things as the grow larger. You obviously also want to provide a shelter to escape from the sun. Check Turtleforum.com and become a member. Its is free and like Maast you can learn and become friends with other Tort and Turt keepers. Lots of research because very few people keep Sulcata into adult hood because they can reach 100+lbs and live 100+ years with proper care. Have fun!

Don't forget the ultimate pest, humans. Make sure you lock your backyard and don't advertise to your neighbors that you have a large tortoise in the backyard. Put up some beware of dog signs.

Yea, Im very aware of that. My neighbors are aware of him but luckily have no interest at all. Some of them just think im weird for having a tortoise in the backyard.
