Here is a picture of my sump. The skimmer is a euroreef rs 80. I have it where the water level should be relative to the skimmer's "optimal performance height". I have PLENTY more room for water in the sump. Would it be a wise idea to bring up the water to at least half the height of the sump? Would it affect the skimmer? If so, what would happen do you think?

if you add more water to your sump can you adjust your skimmer's skim setting? i know when i had my in sump skimmer when the water level changed so did the skimmer's skimming. more water meant less air in the skimmer until i adjusted the settings. i would think you could put in more water then readjust the skimmer. not sure if i'm making any sense, or just babbling as i tend to do :)

you can place some pvc support (box like) under your skimmer to raise it up with the water level in your sump. Make sure you have enough room left on top to remove your skimmer for cleaning and removal of equipments. And to be sure to have room left in the sump for back syphon water.

you may already know this but it is worth saying anyways,, your skimmer needs to sit in a chamber with a CONSTANT water level or it will never dial in and work efficiently.

Well, I only have about half an inch of clearance between the skimmer cup top, and the bottom of the display tank. There really is no way to raise it. I have it already pumping max. air into the reaction chamber already. I wouldn't adjust anything as far as the skimming goes. Jessica, so my skimmer would have less air if I raised the water level? That means worse skimming right? Thanks for the responses. Anyway, if I ddin't touch the skimmer, and ONLY raised the water level in the sump, would it affect the skimmer?

I'd leave it alone, looks like it is working just fine... and a few more gallons to the system volume wont make up for the skimmer not functioning properly...

i had a red sea berlin, and as my water level went up i lost air which meant less skimming. i had a hard time getting it set right, so once i did i tried my best to keep the water level constant.

This skimmer doesn't really change its skimming performance, because the water level is always going up and down in my sump (not too much, but everyday) and I haven't touched the skimmer in forever. I've only emptied the collection cup. I DO clean the motor once in a blue moon. But anyway, I don't think I will add more water to the system. I will just leave it how it is. Thank you guys sooo much for your opinions.

you might want to look into an auto top off for the sump so that your sump level is constant...this will help with the consistency of the skimmer production...
